There's some great info in this thread, and photographers have different approaches, but this information is actually incorrect. Firstly, the ISO has nothing to do with the resolution of the image, which is determined by the camera's sensor. Secondly, increasing the ISO number actually degrades the image. A higher ISO number allows you to shoot in lower light conditions, but the trade-off is that the image becomes grainier the higher you go. Better to set a low ISO number (100 is a good starting point) and if necessary either add more light, or put the camera on a tripod and shoot a longer exposure. The image will be better exposed, cleaner and sharper.My ISO is currently set at 800. This figure dates back to film, when film was graded in high grain, or low grain. (Similar to High Resolution or Low Resolution today). The higher the number, the greater the resolution of the final image.
