MK1 Ford Cortina, 4 door

Post by tonp »

Hi all

Please can anyone help me with finding a MK1, 4 door, Ford Cortina model kit, it was my first car that I bought 8-) , and it was a year old when I did, in 1967.

Hi Tonp

I can only think of two kits that come to mind, Airfix did the Mk1 Cortina in 1/32 scale originally as a Lotus Cortina and later as a boy racer, the second kit was the Frog 1/16 scal Cortina that had an electric motor. This link might help you http://www.scalemates.com/topics/topic.php?id=16013 both kits are hard to find and will be expensive.

You might also find one as a slot car.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi Splash

Thank you for your link, been looking for a dinky 4 door Mk1 Cortina, (plenty of 2 door) and could not find anything?, then in my attic, I came across my sons, unbuilt, 1:25, Ford Escort, ERTE, 3 in 1, so I thought I would try a kit. Will see in your link, the prices, and were to buy.

Just had a look at the link and interesting to see that although the Frog box art shows a 2 door, the kit is actually a 4 door, as shown here.

Hi TimJ
Been looking for one of these for sale, but with no luck, so far can only find a 4 door 1:76 from Antics, will keep on trying. Been trying to get back into model making, and getting the old brain cell to work again, so I thought if I could find a kit of my first car, it would start me back into it.

Splash is right: there was/is a 1/32 Cortina slotcar kit. I still have it half finished. My slotcartrack has long gone but this kit is still in my stash. It looks a if it as based on the Airfix kit. It is a 2-door.
And of course there is the more modern Revell Cortina slotcar. Also 2-door. You need luck to find a 4-door.

This link might interest you, it lists lots of Cortina kits

http://www.lotusdriversguide.com/Modelcars/cortina.php

And this link shows how to convert the Airfix Cortina into a slot car.

Thank you both for your kind help on this, there's plenty of 2 door (dinky) on the Bay  , I've still got that 1:25 ford escort kit, but I never had a real one, so I cant get into the mood to build it, the other kit, I found in my attic was a 1:12 Honda nsr500, made by Tamiya, but like I said, the interest not there
