Re: Oh, No! - My Stash is Getting Unfeasibly Large!
I think I have reached the modeller's mental menopause (MMM). I knew that the time of change would eventually come - it was more a case of when rather than whether. I was in a charity shop a few days ago when I saw an Airfix Hawker Typhoon started set on sale for 99P. It was complete in its original packaging. I looked at it and my bargain finger started to twitch. I went through the usual justifications to buy it, i.e. it's a bargain, I only have six other Typhoons and desperately need another, it would make a nice quick build of a classic kit etc. Then I had a sudden overwhelming stroke of mortality syndrome, brought on by a mental image of my stash. I immediately recognized it as being the onset of MMM. I don't know any replacement treatment for MMM. One just has to accept the inevitable and just walk away, in this case with the 99P still burning a hole in my pocket. So for those of you who regularly contribute to this thread, I can offer some hope that you can fight nature for so long, but it catches up on you. eventually.

I have had a bit of a splurge on eBay and picked up two Airfix Centurions, one Chieftain one Sheridan and one Scorpian tanks plus a Roden IS-3 tank (I looked at an Airfix IS-3 but I gather it has issues with the turret being to small.)
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Already there, with only a few tiny exceptions. Which is why manufacturers and sellers no longer care what I think, and I'm OK with that. I have more than enough to actually build.vacant wrote:I think I have reached the modeller's mental menopause (MMM). My wife got me this as a present, it looks a nice kit, moulded in seven colours and has all the port holes pr-drilled out so that will save time.

That starter paint set won't help, but you could build it as her sister ship, RMS Olympic, in WW1 dazzle scheme

That did cross my mind, it would need several changes including the addition of lots of life boats.
The dazzle pattern does look good though

I thought about it numerous times, then decided my card model was good enough.splash wrote:That did cross my mind, it would need several changes including the addition of lots of life boats.

My brother got me this very nice working train model made from laser cut ply. He has built their working hurdy-gurdy as says the engineering is excellent. He also ordered the book from Guideline Publications on request for me.
