....kit parts make a very distinctive sound when they get sucked up in the vacuum cleaner?
I am really tuned in to listening for it when I vacuum the hobby area and today, yep, something got sucked up. I managed to retrieve it from the top of the bag - just a bit of spare transparent sprue this time but it could have been something important.
My wife is unimpressed that I could hear that but never seem to hear when she calls for me to do something.

I have indeed noticed that David, model parts make a very distinctive sound as they head towards the dust bag! Mrs W always manages to call me to do some task or other right when I am attaching the most awkward/delicate parts to a build and then gets annoyed at my less than immediate response

Hearing things getting sucked up the hoover.
That's probably something to do with aeons ago when men were out hunting and had to listen for the important things, like... well usually something that wanted to eat them. ergo was tuned into listening for the important things in life.
The cavewoman on the other hand was tuned into baby crying, chucking out old bones etc and thus not tuned into the important things.
That's one theory anyway, and not one I'll be sharing with the wife, otherwise I'll have to use some of that 'self preservation' that early hominid was so deft at.
All the best.
