Air compressor questions

Post by splash »

Hi Guys and Girls

My oil less single cylinder 3ltr air tank compressor has just given up the ghost and I'm looking for a replacement.

My question is, do any of you use either a twin cylinder compressor or one of the silent compressor types?

If you use a twin cylinder are they very noisy? Do they shake rattle and roll more than the single cylinder versions?

If you use a silent type, what is the airflow rates and pressure like?

Thanks for any comments

Hi Alan. I have been using the Paasche D500SR for a long time now. Several years and like it a lot. It is very quiet. So quiet I post a note on my bench to make sure I shut it off. Has a built in pressure gauge. Around $150USD. Huge discount from my LMS so got it around $90USD.

I don't believe the expense of a twin is required for a single airbrush user. I've got a no brand single I bought off eBay with tank and reg/water trap. It quiet enough but not as much as I'd like. At the Hudds show I looked at a Sparmax equivalent which though was a bit more expensive was impressively quiet for cylinder compressor. Check out Little-Cars.

Cheers Jeff and James

My currant compressor is not unlike the paasche and has given me five years of brilliant service, after stripping the outer case off It looks like air is leaking from the solenoid mounted on the top, but without fully stripping it down, I can't confirm its the cause or side effect of another fault.

James I have used little cars before and found them to deliver excellent service so I will check them out.

I'm now thinking of spending more than I normally would and get a silent type as the compressor lives in the conservatory.

Here is my nearly dead current unit.

Looks identical to mine except for the cover. I've heard that a lot of compressors come out of the same factory just to be rebadged.
