The Airfix Catalina is a mid 1960s mould, I'm pretty sure.

Well then I will throw the Heinkel in the ring, along with possibly what I believe is a 1960's Monogram boxing of the Tupolev Badger. I will also look in the deep stash for another couple worthies.

You are most likely correct sir, my boxing is
USAIRFIX. Same tooling just a different package.
I has that 60's feel, rivets everywhere and thick cloudy clear bits. I built a Sunderland a few years back, that took the skin off my fingers!

Have you ever had a feel of the old FROG Shackleton? That'll give you rivet rash.

Remember an old blue F4U Corsair where the rivets were so big they nearly touched each other.
Can't remember if it was an Airfix one or Frog though.

That sounds like the Airfix one. It was a bit of a rivet bag.

All the best.

The decision is made! I'm going to jump in with the Catalina . I'll probably have to build it OOB as I can't seem to find much in the way of after market goodies for it.... none in fact. Maybe I can be a 9 or 10 year old boy again for a bit!

My stash was sold in 2012 but I kept a few kits. The oldest kit I kept is the original Swift made by Hawk. The kit is complete with original box, instructions and decals (OOR). It must be from the fifties.

Ok so upon receiving a monster kit it got me thinking, does 1980 count as an oldie in the stash?

That's a beauty that is well worth a restoration job. Thank you for posting it.

I once tried making a canopy and vowed never again!
Any suggestions Greg?
