Longest running subject requests?

Post by Saxon »

Thought this could be an interesting discussion. For quite some time the Valiant in 1/72 would have been one of the most sought after subjects. It goes back to the original Airfix forum and probably even earlier.
So what other subjects have been requested for a long time but are yet to be produced by any major manufacturer?
I think the Avro Lincoln in 1/72 would be another contender.
1/72 Supermarine Scimitar.
1/72 Skyraider AEW.
New tool Vulcan?

Any others?

I could take a guess at a repop, that'd be the F-16XL from Monogram never rebound by Revell.

The F-16Xl is hard to find.

Another re-release would be the Airfix RF-5 Tigereye, also very hard to find. I think there is another company who does one but it is rather high priced.

Airfix 1/72 Canberra B.Mk.2 .

Airfix gave us the B.(I)8 and the PR.9, but completely lost the plot and missed out the bomber canopy versions in 1/72. Why????

I haven't enough time left to build what is already in production and/or in my stash, let alone asking for more  :-D
Best wishes

One I think is long overdue is a Lockheed TR1 in 1/72. I know there is a vacform but that's long out of production (I have one of these) and a limited run kit. But a mainstream kit would be nice.

All the best.

Xtrakit did the Scimitar, not detailed in the cockpit but looks good when finished. Lincoln would be nice but Flightpath do a decent conversion set for a Lanc that is reasonably priced (to me anyway), around £35. It sounds a lot but there are engines, props, nose section, fuselage extension, wing tip extensions, and new vac form clear parts. Sounds like I'm selling for them but it was easily used and I made a good result from it!!

I consider the B.2 to be the one Canberra we all wanted to see again and not to have started their retooling with this variant was little short of dumb.

When Airfix were re-doing the Canberra models there was a strong rumour that Italeri were doing a B2. Unfortunately they did not do it and neither did Airfix as if there was an Italeri one it would have diluted sales.

All the best.

I'd agree the TR-1 and U-2 are definitely long lived requests!
I wish I had bought the Airfix U-2 I saw at Bolton a few years back for £4!

The Special hobby one is the limited run one I refered to, couldn't put my finger on the manufacturer. Thanks for the reminder. The kit has not been available for years and is very hard to come by now. I have been after one for years.

All the best.

There's some very interesting (and potentially wallet draining) stuff there. Thanks for the link.
