If Nelson had only met our cleaner . . .

Got something to say about the hobby of model making?

If Nelson had only met our cleaner . . .

Post by Springy67 »

Hey All

Last week we got a new cleaner. I have a feeling she may be a distant ancestor of Admiral Villeneuve . . .

Not only did she knock it off the shelf, she then stuffed the broken off masts down the hatchways breaking off the 'tween deck ladders. And only a rummage through the hoover bag will determine how many small parts she vacuumed up.

It's just lucky that, in the last four years, I hadn't found the time to rig it, or add the anchors or the boats. Otherwise I would have been really annoyed.

And she didn't even get all the dust off it . . .

Serves me right for being all posh and having a cleaner, I suppose.

Cheers

I assume that your new cleaner is now your ex cleaner?

You have my sympathy. My mother accomplished the same feat with HMS Prince about 30 years ago and it was beyond salvaging. Unfortunately it was fully rigged and was the first and (to this point last) sailing ship I've ever built. I kept a spice bottle full of the deck guns for many years as a reminder of how dangerous the waters are around the Cape of Good Fireplace Mantle.

Shame on you for expecting a lady that old to work

Seriously, sorry to hear about the destruction, but I've long since come to the conclusion that exposed models do not mix with non-modelers. The two should be separated by at the very least a pane of glass, if not a minefield

You're not the first to make that error.
In 2015 some Historian types [who should know better] wanted to find and talk to any 'ancestors' of the soldiers who fought at Waterloo

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

I wasn't pleased to the extent of nearly serving 'Disco Chicken' for Sunday dinner the following week. Amazingly, I let him live with a stern warning that the boss's toys were strictly off limits from now on. He seems to have got the idea, famous last words.

As an aside, if anyone fancies repairing this mess or breaking it up for spare parts, please drop me a PM. I haven't the heart to do either.

A shame about that. When I was a sprog, I would come home to find one of our cats had knocked my model ships off the windowsill more than once. As far as cleaning 'accidents' go I have been terribly fortunate as my mother would wisely stay away from them and leave maintenance to me. Probably why I still have so many of them to this day. If that Spit is beyond therapy I would take it off your hands, but live too far away and have way too many birds with broken wings as it is!

Just advise her to keep her cotton pickin' hands and cleaning implements away from the models, and peace shall reign throughout the land :D.
