When I was an enamel painter I always used White Spirit (and the cheaper the better  ). However, SWMBO hated the smell and I'm now an acrylic convert :-D
All models are equal. Some models are more equal than others.

Homebase and B&Q do sell "low odour" White Spirit. Haven't tried it though; I'm still using a bottle of Focus Basics WS from the 1990s! :)

As a long-time hairy stick enamel user, I do tend to use the WS liberally, to keep the brush supple as I paint (i.e. clean it every 5 mins or so) and to modify the thickness of the paint in my "palette" (usually an old margarine packet lid) as I go along.

It also works well as a drying retarder for the Humbrol metallics. Doesn't always work with Xtracolour enamel though; some paints go gloopy.
