Hey All
I have just painted the green camouflage on my Whitley using Tamiya acrylics. I usually use Humbrol paints but decided to give Tamiya a go. A paint conversion chart suggested Tamiya XF61 Dark Green but, after a first coat, it looks too, well, dark to me. Further research has indicated that XF58 Olive Green may be a better match.
I would be interested to see what you guys think before I go for the second coat.
Cheers

Hi Springy,
I use this for RAF Green on WWII subjects, sprayed neat once, then add white to fade progressively for two or three more passes in one go (wet on wet so it blends), to get scale effect, as I don't like the fresh from the factory look!
It has only come out relatively recently along with XF82 RAF Ocean Grey and XF83 RAF Medium Sea Grey, presumably to compliment the new 1/32 Spitfire they produced.
Cheers

This is my 1/32 Me262 from the recent Blitzbau where I used the spraying technique described above - obviously being a Blitz it had to be painted quickly to leave time to get the decals on later, so as described, it was all over light blue first, then the two different greens, adding white while there is still the base colour in the airbrush paint cup and then mist it over, then a bit more white and mist over again etc.
You could probably do a similar thing with a brush and effectively dry brush the lighter shades on, especially if you added thinners to the paint.

If I may chirp in here, I have used a Tamiya mix with good results.
1 part XF58 Olive Green and 5 parts XF62 Olive Drab.
Results of course may vary.

Thanks both
Beany, that Me 262 looks very impressive! I'm doing my Whitley in the BOAC markings option and I would imagine they were kept in fairly smart condition so I don't think I'll use your technique this time round. But, I'm also building a Wellington and I reckon that would work really well as I'm sure they would have faded quite noticeably.
Cheers
