Hunter F.4 in Gentleman's scale

Chaps, I'm looking to build a Hawker Hunter F.4 (actually an F.51, but, same thing) - what is my best approach for this in 1 72nd scale other than shockingly expensive resin kits? I welcome your input, because I'm out of ideas.

Hmmmm... straight wing leading edges and Sapphire engine? No parachute pack bulge over the jetpipe. No outer pylons.
Does that sum it up?

I think it has an early Avon rather than a Sapphire, but otherwise yes, that seems to cover it. The only choice for it I can think of is the old Frog boxing, but oy, the work involved....

The Revell 1/72 scale Hunters are little gems but I think are too late for what you want.

I have the Frog kit in my stash if you need one.

I think Freightdog Models did a conversion set for the Airfix FGA.9. IIRC it consisted of a new resin centre fuselage (with the correct intakes), new resin wing leading edge ends and one or two other bits I can't remember!!. I think they may still have it.
EDIT: they only seem to have an undercarriage set and a T.7 set. Sorry!!. Maybe another stockist has it.

Buy Hunter kit. Saw off leading edge of wings. Attach piece of balsa wood to remaining part of wing. Sand to correct shape. Skin over the balsa with 10 thou plastic card and blend in with rest of the wing. You could mould it around in hot water if necessary. Make changes to intakes and other modifications to fuselage as required using plastic card and filler. Does that avoid the problem of a 'shockingly expensive' alternative? Is there a conversion article in an old Airfix or other modelling magazine, i.e. from the days before resin aftermarket parts - something seems to ring a bell.

I've ordered the Blackbird conversion kit.

Can't find a photo of that set. I guess it is for the Revell kit (since there is a 1/32 version for that Revell kit).

There's no need for quotation marks - £30+ for a 1/72 scale Hunter is shockingly expensive, especially when you're on a limited budget.

Mistercraft do a Hunter in 1/72. I suspect it's the ex-Frog tooling and it's a bit soft in places, but with the conversion set should be do-able (it's an F Mk.6, currently £9.30 from flea-bay incl. postage)

That's the one I was thinking of going for. According to Scalemates it was a 1999 ZTS new tool, but I have my doubts about the new tool bit. The price is right, which is the main thing, especially when a Revell 1/72 Hunter is going for around the £20 mark, which I would think of as at least 'surprisingly expensive'.

The sprues of both the Mistercraft & ZTS toolings appear to be identical, and certainly different from the 'original' Frog, so maybe they are a new tool....
In common with most Mistercraft kits, the detail shown on the instructions is however far beyond that replicated in the plastic unfortunately
For less than a tenner delivered it has to be worth a bash though!

Let's hope you are pleasantly surprised.
The Mistercraft Javelin is an improved FROG Javelin with engraved panel lines and built-in option for two different back ends.
A very decent-looking 'save' in my book. But I have not built it yet!
