A car kit question.

Post by Gregers »

For a future model project I will need a model, either 1/32 or 1/24 of a 63 pontiac catalina. A 2 door sedan or preferably a convertable. Is there such a kit? I didn't find one on the net but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Cheers and all the best.

There was an ERTL/AMT kit of the Catalina in 1/25 scale, don't know how rare it is so I also don't know how difficult a search this could be for you to find one.

Darn cool car Greg! As David says, AMT did a 3 door hardtop in 1/25th scale which is probably close enough to 1/24th

What's the project mate?

By the way, if you decide you'd rather have a 1/1 scale one, I might be able to help...... :-D

Cheers for the info guys. The scale is unimportant as long s it's a reasonable size. 1/43 ish or above is fine. It's for a conversion so even a built model would be fine as long as it's complete.

Cheers and all the best.

Greg, Hannants are showing a Moebius kit of the 1961 Catalina under future releases.

Moebius kits are awful dear for the described project, I would think.

BUT, having looked at comparable on Ebay + postage to UK, it's a wash more or less, so I'd go Hannants..

That Mobius kit will probably be the way to go. I will see if I can get one from another supplier though using my trade account. I an not sure of the differences between the 61 and 63 models though. Hopefully not too many.

All the best.

Addendum. Done some googling. The front end of the two cars are quite different. Not sure how I could sort that out.

Hi Greg,

From '61 to '64 there was (relatively) minor styling changes but they were essentially similar, the next 'Big Change' was the '65 to '70 version.

Looking forward to this mate!

PS, thanks for the video!
