Could these be a substitute for the much missed ALPS printers?

An often reported tendency of such creatures. I sometimes wonder how so many of us manage to co-exist with them

Seriously though, I can see how our obvious mad hoarding of models and equipment would drive off any candidate SWMBO, but surely, by the time they get to that status, they should know what they're getting into and accept it as part of what we are.

Yeah right......

You go first and we'll see how that goes for you :-D :-D

No can do, sorry. Incurable bachelor (maybe partially due to the 'drive away' part of the theory).

What you need to do is find a SWMBA (A = Adored) who enjoys doing and encouraging similar hobbies as you.

(Now, how do I draw a Smug Face?) :ha:

Admittedly, they are quite a rare breed, took me a while to track one down.

PS. There is a slight downside.... It gets a bit embarrassing when they turn out better models than you. (The voice of experience speaking)

That's OK, I've been completely out-shot by a 14 year old girl, and I've recently discovered a similarly specced critter that can out-paint me any day. I've learned to take the ego-punishment without even blinking.

But the really important question now is, when do we get to see Mrs Zee's work here?

Ah yes, there is that..
Do keep in mind though that the price on the Oki site ($3500 ?) is the "never pay more than" price; I've also seen them for $2500. Or was it Pounds or Euros?
Which is still a very pretty penny of course

Still, I think that last time I had a chance to buy a new but by then old and badly supported ALPS, it also cost close to 800 Euros, and that was ten years ago. I hear they're going for $1500 now, and rising  By comparison, this device might not be such a bad bet.

I guess it's a lot of money, but if you have a semi-bespoke decal shop that is only keeping going by heroic maintenance efforts on an old and unsupported ALPS printer, then as a business investment, one of these might make a lot of sense. At least it's an option now, when there was no alternative a couple of years back...

It's not for the hobbyist market, though, I agree...

Best,
M.

Hmmmm (Zee starts thinking. Never a good thing).

€3,399 is £2992 or $4007. Forum membership is 1933 people. If every member chips in it'll be a modest €1.76 (or £1.55 or $2.08) from each of us.

One person volunteers to keep it at home and we all e-mail an image of the decal we want printed and he/she receives a modest payment for their time for each print request.

There's also consumables to be considered, and shipping, but yes, a sufficiently large community could easily afford a machine like this. A bit like the early and/or more impressive 3D printers that ended up with hackerspaces and makerspaces.

Sorry to be a dumb ass but what does SWMBO mean?
