HATAKA have changed their formula for their paints, if the paints come in an orange box they are spirit based acrylic.

This suits me as I prefer spirt based acrylics like Tamiya over Humbrol & Revell’s water based paints.

Spirit based acrylic come in as my 2nd choice over enamels, and water based are on the bottom.
I'm wondering if these acrylics are as difficult to brush on as is Tamiya? I believe it's the alcohol in Tamiya that causes washout while brushing.

Don't they do a range of different colour boxes ?? some colour code is just for brush painters some for airbrush, some acrylic etc etc

I'm not sure theses are the same as Tamiya Mr Color Aqueus acrylics. AFAIK they are true lacquers (ie hot) and need to be thinned with cellulose thinners such as Mr Levelling Thinners

Yes, these new Lacques are in addition to the brush and their airbrush sets.

Red Line (Acrylic) - Optimised for Airbrush painting

Blue Line (Acrylic) - Optimised for Brush painting

Orange Line (Lacquer) - Optimised for Airbrush painting

I use both the blue and the red line sets for hairy stick painting and have had good results from the bottle - I'm currently working how much what thinners and/or flow enhancers to use.

They are a little grainy perhaps, but very nicely matt which IMHO is much easier to paint.

I posted a thread a bit back on these paints. I use the BLUE boxes and find them very good. Aeromaster were my favourites, but these no longer exist. Luckily, HATAKA have stepped in with their ranges.

They also supply thinners that can be used for brushing.

I find that a coat of the Halfords Grey Primer is the best base for them.

It's a fantastic range, so I'll be buying more sets.
