Free Airfix Spitfire with the Mail on Saturday.

Post by IronMan129 »

Hey folks.
Saw this yesterday and thought everyone on here who doesn't have a strong hatred for the Daily Mail might be interested in a free kit.

I usually buy proper toilet paper but I could be tempted by that offer!
I'll just need to buy a porn mag to hide the Mail inside to avoid embarrassment :-D

Actually my Mother in law gets that - I'll get her to pass it on to me.

Funnily enough I think they've done this before, a couple of years back. The newsagent in town ended up selling excess Spit's for £2-99!!. Presumably not everyone wanted one with the paper and they had a surplus. I did get an odd look too (from the staff!!), when I bought five at once!!. Will have to keep an eye out.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Ha ha. Nice one PT.

A Spitfire certainly doesn't seem like much incentive to me.

Ha ha ha - that literally made me LOL!
Reminds me of a petrol station I used once offering a free copy of The Sun- my missus said I physically recoiled like I’d been punched!

I think a free Shackleton would just about work though...

Just got one of these, but the box art is slightly different from any other Mk1 Spit starter kit I’ve seen. Is this a one off design, or is it simply the 2018 re-print?
Maybe a future collectors item if kept unopened with the newspaper?

I happened to mention this offer over lunch ... and was curtly questioned why I wanted a plane when I generally build tanks and boats
and also reminded that surely I did not need anymore kits, as we seem to have unbuilt plastic models everywhere, (we definitely do not, and we have not really got that many in the house either)

I didn't manage to pick one of these up which is a shame, I noticed when going to get one in arrivals at work that they were only available in the biggervstores and not Airports so it screwed my chances up of getting one.

Dazzled, you need to deal with this problem, Spitfire's are GOOD, they aren't your enemy. Groups are available to help with the Spitfire-Anger Management!!! :ha: :ha: :ha: :ha:

This seems like a different kit than usual. People are referring to it as a kit with no undercarriage. The one posted certainly didn't have one.

The boxing is different from the usual starter kits, so I suppose I shall have to get one from Ebay, where they are already being offered for up to £30.00.

This may be a special Airfix kit that was originally made for W H Smiths, who were supposedly going to stock the Airfix range. If this didn't happen, maybe there were lots of spare Spitfires about.

If anyone has them, could you post a sprue shot please? Ta.

This little issue has caused ructions on FaceBook model sites. So glad that folks on here are just having a chuckle.
So many models, so little time.

I managed to get 3 and they are virtually identical to the standard starter set kit, just in a different box.
