Got something to say about the hobby of model making?

I just won a Grafix P-51 Mustang...... I´m a fool 8-(

Post by Crashpilot »

Somehow the Krap Kits GB struck a chord in me - I´m tempted to buy a Grafix P-51D Mustang kit.
Am I going crazy?
Is it possible, that it is even worse than its twisted sister kit, the Spitfire of the infamous bunch,
ahem, I mean, brand:
this question buzzes around in my head....and raises my curiosity.
If it´s un-buildable, I can still take a flat iron, to make myself some plastic card :ha: !
Waiting for the day, when wars for territory will be something to be read about in history books only.

Being fair to the Grafix kits, they are really just build it yourself toys.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

Yes, that´s right, they shouldn´t be seen as model kits.
But often, my curiosity is stronger, than my reason :) .

It really is terrible.
IIRC, only about 7 parts if you build it without the U/C as I did. (I bought three - purely for practice when I got my first airbrush - at 50p each when a local 'Boyes' was getting rid of Christmas leftovers)

Scale is 'about' 1/48 but only VERY approximately, and varies wildly across the kit - No interior at all, and no canopy - It's moulded into the fuselage halves and is 'solid' (not transparent) - the wings curve up towards the tips, as opposed to having a dihedral.
Looking at DazDaMan's Spitfire in the GB - the P-51 is very much in the same style.
Currently on bench: ICM 1/72 Tupolev Tu-2

Thanks for the info, Carlos!
Then I better try not too hard, to get it!
Good for practicing airbrushing - that´s a good idea! I´m still very clumsy, at mixing paints for airbrush use.
If I should win the auction, I could use the "kit" as a victim for airbrush-bodging

I fear that you seem to be suffering from FFS! ( Filler Fumes Syndrome ). A form of psychosis brought on by exposure to fumes from the vast amount of filler required for attempting to make kits that would cause other modellers exclaim, ' WTF!' ( Warped & Tiresome Fit issues )

You need to take a long walk in the fresh air to clear your head, perhaps to a shop that sells the new tool Airfix Skyhawk. :-D

ROFL :-D :omg
Thank you for pointing that out to me - seems somehow I live out my own quirkyness in putting/puttying ungainly shaped plastic parts together....
In the last 12 months, I could take more time out for time consuming builds, but this is definitely over, for some time to come :-|
In the coming months, I´ll finish builds that only need some clean up / priming / painting / decalling, to get finito.
Maybe one Hobby Boss easy assembly kit in between?

....in the end, I ended up winning the auction - no one else was interested in this beauty!
So it´s on its way to my place....
I´ll not post the build under workbench, don´t worry!
I don´t want to cause any nightmares.
It´ll become my airbrush-practice-plane

You've been honest this far, I think you should go all the way and show us the build. After all, we missed out on one in the Krap Kits G.B.

LOL you really should show us this build when you do it beacuse

a) we all want a good laugh and/or
b) you are going to need a lot of support to get through it.

....for now, I better put it down in the stash pile, before I get called "Krappilot", over here :-D LOL!
In the not too distant future, I´ll use it for airbrush practicing, though.

This is most definitely not playing the game. I think the consensus around here is that since you have been honest enough to admit buying it, you should be honest enough to build it in public as well.
And we promise faithfully not to laugh.
