What would you pay for your dream model?

I was looking through the kits in the loft the other day and was wondering why I actually bought some of them?

Then I saw my Tamiya Famo and trailer and remember paying £88 and thinking that was dear.

But now all models are dear, it's just becoming a very expensive hobby

So, if you can only ever buy one last lot of models(maxium three), any type, scale, material , manufacturer etc what would want and how much would you pay?

For me, a 1/8 Famo and SD116AH Trailer with an 1/8 ME109 or FW190 to sit on the trailer,made by by Tamiya or Trumpeter , tops I would pay is £800.

What about the rest of you?

Interesting to sew what you choose.

It depends if we are talking existing kits already released, or hypothetically.....
Real kits for me:
1/35 Dora rail gun
1/200 HMS Nelson (with Flyhawk detail set)
1/200 HAS Hood (with Flyhawk detail set)

Hypothetical kits:
1/32 Avro Vulcan c/w 3 x 7 1000lb bomb carriers & bombs
1/35 Corvette
1/35 AT-AT (Rumoured from Dragon but no sign yet.....)

As for what I'd pay, if they were the last ever kits I was going to buy then I'd pay whatever was needed

Would pay good money for a 1/24 TBF Avenger. Or a 1/16 FV 101 Scorpion.

If and is's a BIG if someone produced a DHA Drover in whatever scale in whatever medium I would purchase it. IF it was made with Gypsy Queens or Lycomings(?) I would buy two. And that is IF I could outrun Margaret's V8 with my AWD Hyundai. (there are a lot of FWD tracks around here )

Agreed. It's a lot of work to produce anything decent out of what's currently on the market.

Would it be possible to make the Gypsy powered version by converting the Airfix Heron? I admit it'd be a lot of work but I reckon it's do-able by a top chap like you!

G'Day Zee. An Australian plastic model magazine did produce an article on converting an Airfix Heron into a Drover but the cost was too great for me then and even more-so now as a pensioner. It required one Heron plus three Tiger Moths or two Beagles for the re-engined Lycoming version. It would still be a race through the Weddin Mountains and Shire between Margarets V8 and the Hyundai AWD

Have you seen this 1/48 Scale card model of the Drover, it’s cheap, you just download it and print as many as you need, if you make a mistake you just print the part again.

The most I paid for a model was $80 US dollars for Wingnut Wings kits. I sort of regret the decision.

I don't think I'm a good enough modeler to put up that much for any one model.

I'm good enough to take a cheap kit and improve it enough to look okay, but a really pricey fancyit will result in the same level of okay. So it makes more sense to go with the more inexpensive kit.

That said, i tend to go with the mid-priced kits.

You know I had the same impression when the Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire came out, one of those had-to-have kits. I brought it home, oooh'd and aaah'd, then started ... and got bored .... never finished it ....

I will say that WingNut kits are inherently more complex and they've done just enough to make them challenging so they are not shake and bake by any stretch and you'll know you've put the work into it.

Had a 1/1 scale one. Love hate relationship I had with it. It loved to break down, I hated the damn thing.

For me a decent 1/72 F16Xl. £20 -£30 ISH.
1/32 or preferably 1/24th Chipmunk T10. Same scales Cessna 120/140 and Cessna 150/152 kit. A days pay and a pint of my blood.

My most expensive model kits to date, are plank on frame wooden kits. One cost over £350, and I spent well over a further £400 in upgrades. That was all well over 12 years ago now. It has long since been built, and is now very much coveted by its new owners. Since then, I have purchased one further plank on frame kit, from another company, to build the same vessel, and that kit cost over £800. Some work has been done on it, and I have documented it all, ready for when I want to share it. Annoyingly, there is soon to be launched, a further, much larger scale and much better detailed kit with a lot of interior deck and interior cabin detail, of the same vessel, and that is a must have for me at whatever cost it comes in at
