Ayup R&D...

Sounds fun.

How'd you play that ? one book per person, or random page opening ?

Hi Folks,
I've just picked up a copy of "Cover of Darkness", by Air Commodore Roderick Chisholm: the first account I have come across of the development of the RAF's night fighter capability. Well worth the read if you can find one. Does anyone know of any other books on the subject?

Regards

Just picked up the first 6 bound "Aircraft in Profile" volumes in a second hand bookshop in Finedon for £4 each. I know they're maybe a bit dated, but I always had a soft spot for Profiles. Looks like completing the set might cost rather more!

I gave up on completing the set, Matt - just too expensive! I could never find vols. 7 and 8 for a reasonable price. I ended up buying the lot on CD from e-bay......

Last week I got a copy of Ian Proctor's Images of War- The RAF in the Cold War 1950-1970. Absolutely excellent with beautifully reproduced photos of the RAF during its prime. Aircraft, missiles, people - some rather obviously staged, etc.

To get a taste see:

"Night Fighter" by Rawnsley & Wright, I think somewhat of a classic. ISBN 0907579671

I'll second that, John. I have a late fifties/early sixties paperback edition of it - a classic, indeed!

A small "Yee-hah!"

After a visit to Haworth this weekend (no one told me that Pennine Models, which I've been visiting for years, isn't actually IN Haworth, or not the main bit of it, anyway. In the main bit there are MANY second hand bookshops...), my set of "Aircraft of the Fighting Powers" is finally complete, with the elusive Volume IV tracked down. I know the plans vary in accuracy, but I really, really like books with plans as a raison d'etre...

Plus I picked up "Gloster" to add to my Putnam "..... Aircraft 19xx-xx" collection. Since I doubt I'm ever going to be able to afford, or indeed want, the scarcest one, the "Miles Aircraft..." volume, I think that shelf of CBAircraftManufacturers is more or less complete as well!

bestest,
M.

They are well worth tracking down if you can Sir T, I've got the first volume in the Fleet Air Arm series as well and they all have unusual subjects that I'd like to try and reproduce. A Hawk carrying a Sea Eagle missile on the centreline anyone?
