The littlest Ian made one of these a while back. As long as you clean up the parts where you've removed them from the sprues you should be OK. The only thing we found was that one of the wires seemed to be a little short, so you may have to lengthen one by about 30mm.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

I think we cut a length from one of the other wires in the kit, stripped back the plastic sleeve and just twisted the wire together. I wouldn't recommend this with 240V but with the low voltage from the batteries, it's fine. To make it more secure you can wrap in electrical tape - or ever cellotape if you wish.

I don't have one of those but I've heard it is not a straight forward build for a novice, especially if you don't know much about electrics. Basically, the kit is underpowered as it comes, and also appears to only drive the engine the wrong way. I suggest you do what I always do when I need info. of this sort (as well as asking here on the forum as you have done - good lad) - take a look on YouTube. Type something like "Airfix Jet Engine Kit" into the Search box and watch and learn at your leisure. Here is a very useful and fun video to get you started:

Hope that helps.

The guy who did the video has also written about it:

He explains the wiring a bit more!

Cheers
