A Model 1/72nd Bristol Brabazon...

Post by bluesteel »

..has just arrived at Hannants:

http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AMU02872

But at £350.00 it's a tad on the pricey side. But a lot of plastic for the £.

Bruce (Merlin), any chance of obtaining a review copy so we can have a look :-D

That's a 38" wingspan in 1/72 :shock:
This aircraft always fascinated me as a child, my father saw it several times and told me all about it. As tempting as it is, I shall wait for the 1/48 version.
Would ya like to learn to fly? Would ya? Would you like to see me try?

Ken Duffy was given one of these kits for review and has had a build thread running over at ARC for a few weeks. The kits themselves are nothing like a run-of-the-mill injection moulded kit, the main components are laid up in GRP. This is reflected in the price.

Some more details and sprue shots at HobbyTerra http://hobbyterra.com/product.asp?idProduct=3629;

This is probably the way to go for those that can afford it - outside the UK it is probably cheaper to get it from HobbyTerra in USD, for those that can not may be the Execuform vac is the only other game in town as a start point...?

The big A-Model GRP models are quite nice but the GRP resin surface does need so tidying up for a smooth surface...I'm tempted but would be more interested if a Saro princess is to follow...

Despite living in a relatively small house I have bad liking for building large aircaft - please don't let me see one of these in the flesh!(or should I see GRP???)

.... but if you saw one in the flesh and bought it, you’d no longer live in small house... you’d have an extension you could move into once you’d finished it!

I have a funny idea I might have said that I'd like to see a 1/72nd Brabazon just after I'd bought the F-rsin 1/144th resin Brabazon. Does this mean I have to buy the A Model Brabazon now :shock:

I love some of A Models subjects but even the smaller ones are so expensive, I just can't justify it, I also don't know what their quality is like.

Check out Ken Duffy's build of the A-Model An-22 which gives a good and very detailed feel for what the kit is like...from my experience what he says there in terms of qulaity pretty much goes for any of the other A Model GRP models...
