I just noticed that if you go to the front page of the Airfix online shop:

One of the sections is proudly labelled "Classic Kits"... though what's behind it is a slightly odd subset of all the kits (eg in Classic kits/aircraft/1:72 aircraft/ you get the new Tiger Moth).

Has that been there for long? Anybody have any idea what the rationale behind it is?

Nice Boeing 707 in there with BOAC markings, it's an oldie to be sure but looks great in that livery. I'm glad to see that I saved £5.00 on the B-737 kit at Huddersfield on Sunday too

I think it might be boxes with just the kit, without paint and glue. I hesitate to call them "Non-starter Kits", but you get the idea!

I think that someone had an idea but either didn't follow through on it or couldn't due to the structure of the website...it certainly doesn't strike me as the sharpest, most user-friendly or intuitive of model manufacturer websites...

I was wondering, maybe they don't mean 'Classic kits' (as in new boxings of older kits from their back catalogue), maybe they mean classic subjects? As in classic planes (like a Tiggie or a 707).

Maybe it's not about the kits but the subject matter??? Just a thought.

It seems to be a mix Zee. Some of them are certainly oldies, such as the Boeing 737 I recently bought (which I was hoping for as I wanted the CBK). A plus with that particular kit though is at least the newer red box version isn't moulded in that awful white plastic that the airliner kits were often presented in, but is in a much more user friendly grey.

Yeah Shaun, it's all a bit strange. I haven't done a civil 144th airliner since I was a kid, I still feel traumatised by the memory of trying to make holes in the decal stripe for all the little windows!

It has been said before but the really should have a classic plastic section - any kid buying a Dauntless after making a new tool for the same money is in for a dissapointment.

Should they be renamed Challenging rather than Classic?

We feel your pain

Believe it or not, I enjoyed them both. The nostalgia, the simplicity, the 'quick-build' nature of them both.... OK, OK, my expectations are low and super-detail doesn't bother me (especially if it can't be seen upon completion), but they were both fun to make! Sorry!
