Re: Purplethistles patch
Being able to paint and/or draw is a great talent PT. My standards of art haven't improved since I was about 12 and I haven't progressed beyond the "matchstick man" phase, mind you that didn't do Lowry any harm
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

That has turned out very well Pt. Excellent work. I was wondering which figure kit you'd begin your conversion with. Turns out you didn't need one.

Awesome work; sculpting a figure from scratch is amazing!
Best wishes

You've captured the pose and the proportions excellently.

Cheers chaps, I surprised myself at how quickly it took shape as it was really just a practice effort using some Milliput left over from something else that didn't have the sprue 'skeleton' that I had planned to do on the 'real' attempt! She's a couple of (scale) pounds heavier than I intended but at the same time I think she actually looks more Indian than the lass on the cover of the book who to my eye has the features of a Caucasian in make up.

Re: Purplethistles patch
Not quite done yet. I started to try to shift Connies head to the exact position on the book cover but an alarming crack started to appear so I fixed the crack and decided that I'm happy enough to represent the cover rather than slavishly copy it. I've had fun with this build so far, it would be a shame for it to become a chore at the end.
Just got to sort out the backdrop now.

You painted the Dragon on the Zero! Man that looks good. Was that an actual paint scheme on the Zero or something to do with the Commando comic. I am totally unfamiliar with this Commando thing. I have seen it on a couple threads though.
Once again you have me gaping jawed at the figures you do. Practice! I sweat just looking at the work you do.

Re: Purplethistles patch
Cheers chaps,
Paul, The black Zero with the dragon was fictional, the personal markings of the bad guy from the Commando comic issue 'Black Zero'. It was such a striking scheme that I just had to have a stab at it even though no decals were available.
The Commando books were a huge part of growing up in the 60's & 70's over here. They are often referenced by grown men of a certain age with phrases like 'Take that Fritz!' and 'Ach Himmel!' or 'For the Emperor!' (As witnessed by the lengthy comment thread of quotes when I posted the finished Zero cover on my Facebook page!) Germans always went 'Aaargh! when hit and Japs went 'Aiiiieeee!'
They were a massive inspiration to me to draw and paint, either wanting to emulate the stunning artwork of Ian Kennedy or Jose Maria Jorge....or thinking, 'Huh! I could do that!' when the artwork was less than accurate.
There are Commando comics in Kindle type format these days and worth having a look at if you get the chance.
......another common scenario was the last frame ending with,
'I was wrong about you, you're no coward / traitor / reckless character'
'Well I reckon that with us as a team, Jerry / Tojo has no chance'

Thanks to being inspired by Splash's excellent work on the Airfix 54mm Polish Lancer in the Figures section, I snapped one up on Ebay to attempt this slightly ambitious conversion, having gotten the bug for doing 3D book covers now

More really excellent figure work, PT and I'm looking forward to your efforts in converting the Polish Lancer into the charging Flashman and his, err, lady friend who are no doubt on their way to indulge in some boudoir olympics

Great work on the two figures, they do look good when put together
A start on my first kit a Hawker Hurricane as been made, a spitfire awaits in the wings and thinking about models to come.
