Revell 1/72 Mirage III built as a 'whatif?' Fairey Delta FD3

From a group build in another place

The kit parts are quite intricate and detailed for a Revell boxing dated 1975
Lots and lots and lots. . . of flash! Surprising amount of steps in the instructions, I expected five or six, there's 32!
The incredibly spindly landing gear without doors comprises of thirteen parts to allow the wheels to turn (why?)
A bit of a struggle to get the cockpit tub to sit right, it holds the nose landing geat too, so ended up chopping out the locating lugs! 
That canopy fits where it touches, which isn't as many places as you'd think!
I thought the cockpit was troublesome! The wings needed lots of carefull adjustment to get them close before adding a ton of filler














Lots of blemishes and dings, things that don't fit just right, the landing gear wouldn't set so wouldn't stand and pose for photos, I'm not showing the underside, it's shocking! The kit pitot was more flash than probe so this one is stretched sprue, two white aerial are plasticard, the serial is ficticious, it was XE601 a Hunter FGA9 but I turned the numbers upside down to be XE109

This was my last project, a nice 'what if?' I got myself a HobbyBoss Jaguar E (for école presumably) which was a mistake, I assumed there would be parts in the box for a slightly different RAF T2, serves me right for being too cheap to get a only slightly more expensive Hasegawa T2



It begins! I'm lucky enough to have a small stash of Humbrol Authentics, this one being just the job!



Unremarkable but adequate cockpit assembly installed in the fuselage



Fuselage closed up and all the parts to add cleaned up and ready to fit



Quite a good fit, no real problems to deal with





Aerodynamic surfaces



Odd that the fuselage has the tabs to fit the wings not the other way around, defying convension



Disaster! I cracked the canopy! after failing to find a replacement I decided to live with it!



White paint, maybe another mistake

and blue, it was tricky masking job, maybe better to paint the blue first? Just getting the white on top I suppose



Time to get the main decals in place before fixing the easily broken off parts



One of the parts that are different on the Frenchy are the fuel tanks, so, I had to get these, the added cost means I could have had that Hasegawa or an Italeri RAF Jag T2 (just not the Matchbox! although the raspberry ripple would've been about right)



Second disaster! I lost the R/H main gear leg!!



At this point my enthusiasm to complete the thing with all the little touch ups needed to get it done











I'm the kind of guy who doesn't believe perfection completeness or permanence exists so I can live with the flaws, put it down to experience,

HobbyBoss Jaguar E? Yep, it's a good kit, goes together quite well, I considered getting another one and 'whatif?ing' that one wheels up, but. . .

the missing strut turned up! It was only when I was ready to paint my next project that I found it!
