The Cave of RudiB

Post by RudiB »

Here's a look at my workspace for your enjoyment, it's half of my garage, various works in progress and some completed builds on the shelves. Currently building the Victor on the bench, and the Saturn V rocket is a bit of a 'started so I'll finish it eventually project' This is only half of the workbench, the other half I use for my electronics work.

A nicely busy looking bench Rudi and some great things on there - a Vulcan, Victor and Saturn V - what's not to like
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Still working on the Victor build, it's taken a bit of a back seat lately, I've been working on my annual Christmas lighting project so the bench now resembles mess of electronic components and model paints. Hopefully I'll have a few days over Christmas to get back on the Victor.

Meanwhile has anyone else built the Saturn V I have on the bench? I'm after some painting tips, like is it best to spray the whole thing black with a rattle can and then mask off the areas that need to be white and then spray over the top of the black, have seen quite a few different methods online

A bit of progress on the Victor this week, the landing gear has been fitted and paint touched in. That's it as far as building is concerned, next job is to apply the decals.

Finally faced a fear of mine, that being camo paint schemes, yup I've never done one before as they blew my mind as to how to go about masking round edges, well after doing some research I found my new favorite masking material - blutak.
This will come in handy when I finally get round to the Lancaster that's in the stash
Anyway I tried it out on this 1/72 Hurricane I'm using as a test build for my first complete airbrushed model.

Masking with blutak and masking tape

Removal of masking, I was surprised and impressed by the results although I blocked my airbrush as didn't thin the paint enough and spent an age unblocking it

Masking camo isn't an easy thing to do and that's a good first attempt.

As I had a day off work today, woohoo! I decided it was time to make space for the Victor as its been sat on the bench ever since I completed it.
I removed the old shelves from the wall and fitted new brackets, I made a shelf for the V force out of 10mm ply doubled up (glued and screwed together) and added an extra smaller shelf below for paint storage.
I think I may just be able to squeeze the Valliant in there when its built.

Also a little progress on the Hurricane, I've lost interest in it a bit so it may turn into a started so I'll finish it at some point build :???:
I've started on the canopy masking and painting aswell.

Lovely pair of V-Bombers and in anti-flash white, my favourite scheme. The Hurricane is looking good.
