Looks good from here 8-)

The photos of the completed Herc look great, and that's a nice, dynamic pose on the stand, perfect for the AC-130! Great job on the interior too!

Paul,
you have done a really splendid job there. I am not seeking to 'show boat (is it called?) but I created some prop blur for my Sea Fury:

This was my first effort:

This my second

and after studying more closely, various photos, this was my final version:

I used CorelDraw to create the basic work and, I think, Photo Shop Elements to create the 'blur' from the Corel image

I think the pilot is desperate for me to stop experimenting and get the canopy fitted!!

Paul you have caught the look of the Herc beautifully in the build and display. Excellent work.
Cheers

Agreed! The Herc looks great!

TeeELL, the prop blur effect you produced is spectacular! What a great way to display a model in flight! Thanks for sharing the photos.

Great work on the prop blur. It's not showboating, I love suggestions and examples of how others tackled the same problems. When you say you did it with CorelDraw and PhotoShop, is it printed on the disk or onto decals and then transferred to the disk?

Paul, it is printed on OHP transparency. I had not thought of using decal paper!! But thanks, that could be perfect. The transparency is mounted behind a disk of clear plastic (approx same width as the pitch of the prop - sounds more technical than it really is - I just looked in Hobbycraft for something that 'looked about right'). I think, if I do something similar in the future, I will taper the front side of the disk at the 'tip' to reduce that overly obvious 'blunt edge'. But then again I might not. Biggest problem is remembering the stages in creating the 'blur'. I might look through my CorelDraw files to see if I still have the stages, I know it took me about a week of evenings to finally create a look I was happy with.
I think, one of the problems with prop blur is that, as modellers we create something we think is 'right' and forget to keep looking at reference photos. My first attempt had far too much 'rotation' which made the disk opaque, you can see how difficult it is to look through the prop disk in the first photo. In the final image, there are virtually no radial score lines.

Paul, forgive me - I have hijacked your thread a little. I will start a thread on this topic in the appropriate section, at some stage.

No problems at all Tony. As I said, it is great to see other peoples solutions and it is virtual space anyway  . A thread on the topic would be great though because it would keep the various solutions in a place so that others would know where to look for it later.

I thought about what you said about creating something that looks right from reference photos and one thing that might not be solvable is that the blur of the same prop changes for one photo to the next depending on camera setting and environment. So you can create a look that is right for one condition when viewed from one specific angle and lighting condition... such as when a model would be viewed in a shadow box diorama, but not all. No matter what though, I like seeing other peoples work and thoughts on the subject.

Cheers,
Paul

Looks Very Good
Hi Michael,

I can't take credit for the P-47 with prop blur above. That is Tony's handy work not mine. It is a very nice prop effect and I wish I knew how to use CorelDraw or PhotoShop! I like the look of the landing gear retracting too. Gives nice action.

I think these computer and photo editing programs could be very useful for a number of effects. I might invest one day in the programs.

Cheers,
Paul
