Decals have been applied. They went on pretty well and no problems with yellowing. They did not react that well with the setting solution I used. They wrinkled up as expected however one star on the tail stayed wrinkled. Can't really see it in the pictures though. They are also a little transparent but minimally so.

That looks excellent, Paul and it's good to see the decals have behaved themselves.

Great job on the Yak, Paul! The paint job looks flawless as always, and it's good to see the decals performed well. Not a common subject, but that's a very sharp-looking plane. And I hope you enjoyed Blackadder! :)

Nice paint job. The model makes it apparent how boxy the fuselage is.

Yeah Shaun, yellowing did not present a problem luckily.

Sir T, the Hasegawa kit inspired me to do this one. I had the Hasegawa kit a while back and I was in one of those moods where I just put the model together quickly to see what it looked like. No painting at all. I ended up really liking it but I could not find the kit again until Zvezda put this one out. Neat looking aircraft but it is so small. Not even as big as a 109! Good luck on the Yak!

Thank you Fred. I have been following your Ar196 and am really impressed with your weathering and hairspray technique. I might try it on my next kit since it looks so good on yours.

I like the flat sides of the fuselage. It gives it a tall look, like the side of the Skyraider.

Finished the Yak. I broke off the pitot tube that came with the kit(no surprise there). I replaced it with a technique I saw on a modeling video. I used a guitar string and stretched plastic tube over it. Made a nice and strong pitot tube that could be easily painted.

Not all attempts worked though!
Image

I had to drill into the canopy to add the antenna. I tied a knot in the rigging thread to give the glue something substantial to hang onto when it is glued in.
Image

All in all, it was a really fun build that makes a nice Yak-3.

Cheers,

An excellent finish Paul and it looks great displayed on that base. Top work 8-)

I've never seen the guitar string/plastic idea for pitot tubes before and will bear it in mind as I maintain a small stock of excess string that I've clipped off during re-stringing my 6-string guitar as it can be handy for stuff like tank antennae.

Very nice job on the Yak. The camo pattern looks especially good.
