Spad and Kaydet are annoying me (rigging issues) so I've set them aside for the moment to start work on a state-of-the-art kit that will surely fall together when I shake the box.

Ahem.

... and here's two days work

Office, such as it is..

Image

Plastic is very very soft & easily bent. My getting these off the sprues intact is nothing short of a minor miracle.

Image

Au sujet de W-struts, a cursory check online reveals that they do not align with the pre-drilled holes in the upper wing. Choice is to trim loads off them or drill new holes. The first way leads surely to disaster and madness so we went to option B.

Image

Fit is "Doesn't". This is after serious fettling. More work required. Enjoying myself thoroughly, though

Filling and fettling, fettling and filling

Little engine, about to be hidden away..

Two piece cowlings, how I loathe you

Image

This was from earlier.. I have the fuse filled and tidied up and the cowling and engine on. Camera is playing up, so more soon

The W struts are a dead loss. They nearly induced me to smash the thing (I've never come closer to "binning" a kit). In the end I gave up and got the wings on and aligned in a jig with the outboard struts in place. Then I measured up and made my own W struts from stock. Much better. I'll be doing the same on the other Strutter of the pair.

The rest of it is looking good. And yeah, that cowling is a pig hey.

This looks like one of those hair shirt kits . Painful yet it does one good. Looking forward to seeing this done as I have it somewhere

Love the "state-of-the-art kit that will surely fall together when I shake the box" comment!

Your doing a wonderful job on it though. The engine looks the part and great work filling and lining up all the ribs on the fuselage. I too hate it when the cowling is separated like. I wish they would cut it along into its circular portions, that way it would keep its roundness.

Again, fine work!

Thanks muchly. It looks like a plane now. An important step.

OK, are you all sitting down? If not, do so because what I'm about to impart is going to blow your mind into tiny little fragments.

The decals behaved themselves.

Image

No, really. They're a little stiff & brittle, and have excess carrier film but they didn't collapse into a million tiny shards on contact with water as I was expecting. OK, I've definitely jinxed myself for the roundels, haven't I?

That looks great!

Great work with this shake and bake (not) kit Arc. Hopefully the rest of the decals will behave themselves.

Struts are on. That was not even close to being fun. Now, let us never speak of them again.

Image

(the port wing struts are actually aligned correctly, the above photo has weird forced perspective going on)

Rigging time? Yes, yes it is. Heaven help me.

Nice one Arc. The struts sound like they were a pain and now you have all the joy of rigging the thing. Super. I'm very envious. Not. Best of luck with it!

Holy moses, I've been away six months!

Apologies, all. Life got a bit weird and hard over the summer... but all is good now and prospects are brighter and I'm making models. And back. What did I miss?
