59North's Modelling Emporium

Post by 59North »

I like the whole idea of having personal modelling windows to show our work, with all the artistic good we do and the sometimes tragic mistakes we make. It's a fun concept; a running history of our efforts to achieve beauty in one of the most peaceful and endearing hobbies ever.

I'm a new member to this forum, and I welcome you to my 'Workbench Window'. In here, I will display my work.
I forewarn you that I am no 'master', and will never be. I am only an enthusiast who seems to keep trying to get just a little bit better every time I open a box.

I'm going to start with a 1/32nd figure that I'm working on. This is only my second figure, posted in the format that I prefer to display. Hope you can enjoy, and perhaps lend a voice to help me along.

Figures. They do lend a sense of scale to the subject being modelled, but they're not easy to do. Good work, and good luck

Tomorrow, I should have a healthy day of modelling in store for me. At least considering it's -24C outside. I may as well stay inside, and try to get this fellow put together.

Later. GB

I promise the next photo will be the finished product. Just imagine how long it will take me to build his ride. GB

I learned a lesson. The Humbrol Dullcote should have been a light airbrush coat rather than painted on with the hair-brush. My lacquer based dulling ate through the 'Future' and into the Tamiya color, mixing everything together and destroying a reasonable shading job. The nice hatband is hooped.
The photo reflects my humble efforts to redeem myself.

I must move forward

Already started, but, I am a snail's pace builder. I'm finding that all that AM is not necessary to purchase for this kit. The Barracuda resin is very nice to have, though.

Considering the next couple of pics, some of you may come to realize that I am a 'Rubber'.
This is a guy who applies a metallizer before the main color so the primary can be slightly rubbed off with a solvent, exposing some of the metal. I find this can be quite effective in the weathering process. Past experience has shown me one must have a light touch here.

First I primed with Krylon grey rattle can. Then Alclad airframe aluminum followed by Tamiya 71 green.
Finally, tomorrow I can start putting things together and the detail paint.

One of the reasons I'm such a horribly slow builder is that I insist on 48hrs between paint coats. So I'm starting another figure:

You know I had to look twice at the fuse sides in your picture - At first I thought it was a Skyraider!

Nice work on that interior - the rub method does look very effective when done.

Just bought this kit at the LMS yesterday. Will be watching. Oh, the cost? Well lets just say when you patronize the LMS in lieu of Mail Order, it has it's rewards.

This cockpit panel is the Tamiya OOB. I tried to ring the instruments with gloss black to offset from the extra dark grey panel.
Sadly, my old eyes and hands will no longer allow me to paint what my young mind sees.

I still might go with the Eduard panel. Although, the Tamiya panel does follow the rule; the farther she gets, the better she looks.
