59North's Modelling Emporium
Re: 59North's Modelling Emporium
Tomorrow is the start of a GB I've entered, so the big spitfire will be quite happy relaxing in a safe place until we meet again. Thanks for watching.

Hi, Asoka. The GT40 is a Fujimi 1/24.Asoka wrote:...what brand is the GT40? Asoka

Not a whole lot! With the little grand-kids about, raking and yard work, and right back to snow shoveling, it's tough to get bench time. Very little done:johnsan wrote:Any further progress with the Spit?
And thanks for looking, ShaunW.

Re: 59North's Modelling Emporium
Those of you who look into my post's are likely familiar with my GT40 DNF in the 10th Anniversary GB.
Well, I'm still trying to sort through that build.
Here, I present to you:
The Horrific Results of Gross Impatience and Infallible Foolishness
Now, while I'm working to put in our garden, I'll reflect on this and consider the course of action. Right now, it's leaning toward becoming the property of my grandson. But, I'm just not quite ready to give up on it.

Arrgh! What happened? Is it a wash gone bad, masking trouble, or something else?
Good luck with it, the build was progressing nicely.

Re: 59North's Modelling Emporium
Hi Nigel. I spent many hours masking for the black trim very nicely. Then I was tired, and in a moment of weakness decided to spray bomb it with a satin black Krylon rattle can. This instead of light coats of Tamiya shot lightly through the airbrush.Clashcityrocker wrote:Arrgh! What happened? Is it a wash gone bad, masking trouble, or something else?
Needless to say, the Krylon was applied too thick allowing it seep under mask in places. Then I started to peel the mask off too early without letting the Krylon set. Krylon has a tendancy to melt the underlying Tamiya coat, and the soft paint was pulled with mask removal. Hence the destruction.
I'm going to try a repair and finish the model, but inevitably, it will be turned over to a 3yr old. That should adequately remove any evidence of my foolishness.
Take care.
