Re: Fred's Breakfast Bar
Very nice Fred, that looks great from here. I've never come across Tamiya Paint Retarder either but it has certainly worked well.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

I've not seen the retarder either but i suspect I will be soon!
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Yup, it is warmer here for sure, but the heat wave is over, thank goodness.
That Retarder worked well on your model. Is there an equivalent for enamels, or is it specific to an acrylic hazard?
cheers,
David

Hi David. Glad to hear the weather is behaving!
I'm not aware of a retarder for enamels, but I'll look around!
Cheers,
Fred.

Re: Fred's Breakfast Bar
Thanks, Fred, but I don't actually need one - just curious.
It obviously makes life easier for you, so I wondered if enamels would benefit similarly.
cheers,
David

Re: Fred's Breakfast Bar
Fair enough!
Here's some info from the good folk at Fine Scale Modeller. Lots of advice here, but some seem to think there's no need for an enamel retarder, as enamels take longer to dry anyway. I don't know enough to say, but it makes some sense.
Anyway:

Re: Fred's Breakfast Bar
That is most interesting, Fred. Thank you!
Yup, I have no problem with enamel drying time.
Many thanks,
David

Re: Fred's Breakfast Bar
Good day all!
For fans of modern armour models, here's an easy way to do the vehicle's optics: it's small squares of glitter from a craft store. It has a metallic finish, but I believe it's made of mylar so it's very easy to cut with a hobby knife or scissors, and it adheres well with model glue. It's available in various colours, but this particular container came with a mix of light blue, dark blue, and purple, which I think is a useful combination for this purpose. Just trim off a small piece (I use my wife's tiny sewing scissors), and glue it to the kit part. This small container has enough to last me several lifetimes!
The Marder is almost finished, BTW. Just stowage and weapons to go!
Have a great weekend, and Happy St Patrick's Day to those from the Emerald Isle!

Ferd, I can't quite make out the manufacturer from your picture; can you provide some detail as to who they are?Canuck2016 wrote:Thank you, Iggie! All the best!

Re: Fred's Breakfast Bar
Good day Iggie
Here's a better photo. The manufacturer is called ArtMinds, and the product is just called "Glitter". This combination of colours is called "Lakefront", which I guess makes some sense.
The back of the box says "Distributed by MSPCI, 8000 Bent Branch Drive, Irving, Texas".
I should point out that I found this in a "Michael's" store (arts & crafts supplies) in Canada. It may go by other names elsewhere.
I hope this helps!

Re: Fred's Breakfast Bar
That glitter stuff is very effective Fred and much less fuss than my method of painting black and then over painting with clear blue.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.
