Re: David's Desk
Nice work on the the Stingray and also on the Flipper, an interesting little also-ran I know very little about. I saw that kit of it many years ago in a toy shop in Aberdeen Scotland but begged off of buying it as I thought it was some kind of fake MiG. Kinda wish I had bought it now. A few models did return home with me though.

The Flipper looks OK from here David. Sometimes it's worth pushing one through to try and stimulate the modelling juices!

Re: David's Desk
Stingray has finally come back to the top of the heap. In fact, she's the only thing in the heap. I have no other partly built models. So, while I am between GBs, I am trying to get her finished. It should be stress free as the hard stuff is all done.
Call me fussy but I decided the provided periscope (on the right below) has got to go. So I made its replacement from the nose of an old AIM-7, a thin brass rod and two concentric aluminium tubes.
Also I have added the Aquasprites (the dark blue bits with bubble canopies on each side of the hull and the rear fins.
That just leaves some paint touchups, clearcoat, decals, clearcoat again and fit the Ratemaster in the opening behind the fins and the boosters under the hydroplanes.

Re: David's Dithering Desk
Excellent work David. I'm using my time between GB's to clear a few bench queens too.

It would have been a shame to have stuck that frying pan on your model after all the hard work

Good to see your Stingray build again and it looks great David. I agree, the OOB frying pan-alike periscope needed to be replaced. Yours looks so much better!

Re: David's Dithering Desk
Well, she's all glossed up but... nowhere to go as the lettering decals I ordered specially for her from the UK won't look right after all. I have ordered some more which should be here in the next week (sooner maybe as they only have to come from New York).
I did add the boosters under the hydroplanes.
Now, can I resist starting something else before the Musketeer GB?

Re: David's Dithering Desk
Stingray is done. I found some decals that, while not perfect, are good enough. The font isn't quite right for the white markings and the 'Stingray' name is a tad small but since there were multiple filming miniatures used that were all sightly different and the model itself is pretty inaccurate and has some bits I botched (notably the white lines), I can live with them.
I'll post more pics in a new thread in the 'Real Space, Sci-Fi and What-iffery' forum.
I now have nothing started, in progress or on the 'shelf of doom'. Feels weird.

Re: David's Dithering Desk
Well, it's time to reopen this thread.
Firstly the C-130K that was a DNf in the Cargo Haulers GB. It doesn't look very different in these two pics but the the first one is Tamiya XF-60 Dark Yellow. I was OK with it but then botched applying the Dark Earth camo. Since it had to be sanded a bit and repainted, I used Testors 4813 British Armour Light Stone and I prefer the result shown in the second pic, although there's probably not much difference.
Also on the desk is a whatif based on a single fuselage from the F-82 Twin Mustang. It's had a Griffon engine transplanted on to it and an increased wingspan. I am thinking it will be a late 40s/early 50s high altitude photo-reconnaissance plane.
