Those big US bombers look quite good in all black schemes don't they? My B-17 almost stayed that way!
Best wishes

Yes they do, but I will resist the temptation to keep it black and hopefully get some aluminum on it today.

I think the Superfort is a handsome bomber in any event and it certainly looks good in its temporary black scheme. Great work.

Thanks. Yes this one has been a labour of love....or something anyway. It's half sprayed in aluminum now but the weather has scuppered any more till this way too long and annoying winter passes. Sure wish I had access to a nice warm workshop instead of a windswept balcony.

The B-29 has made a lot more progress thanks to a brief break in this dumb weather. It is now sprayed in aluminum and now that it has dried the masks have come off the glazing and de-icing boots. A wash and wipedown with a rag dipped in isopropynol and then floor wax can go on.

That's looking really good GMG, especially considering its beginnings.

So do you build/paint outside on your balcony?

Very nicely done GMG - I don't envy you having to spray outside this time of year!

Yes I do spraypaint outside when I can but right now isn't a good time for it. With my airbrush acting up as well it looks like the hairy stick is my last resort!

After a wash and wipedown/polish, it is starting to look the business. Another post soon now that I have fitted its defensive armament on.

Good stuff GMG that is a nice looking in-service NMF. The B-29 has lovely lines and IMHO is arguably the best looking bomber of WW II. 1/144th is the way I would go now if I was to model one of these aircraft as the type is too big for my display shelves in 1/72nd. Remember the mad 1/48th Superfort from Monogram? I don't think one of those would fit in the house let alone on my shelves :ha:

Agreed Shaun. The B-29 is a handsome looking beast, and apparently a real game changer of a design. That's why I am torn between finishing it as either a USAAF or USAF machine, or even a Tu-4 'Bull' in Soviet markings. I also have one illustration of the aircraft as an RAF Washington as well, and maybe even markings for that can be cobbled together from spares. They are all good prospects. Decisions, decisions.......

The B-29 is finally off of the bench. I have christened it 'Old 69' because I paid sixty nine cents to keep it out of the landfill. Decals from spares and prop blurs made of scrap clear packaging material and painted to suit.

Nice one GMG, it's great to see the Superfort finished and I love the backstory behind the name - a very worthy save from the landfill!
