I think that Mr Mark is battery acid, very slightly cut with water. I've had that happen too, and it's extremely frustrating. Takes nothing off the quality of the build though, Softscience.

If you throw in the right chemicals and pass an electric charge through it, you might create life :)

Hi David,

I just finished it today after returning from holiday visits to my family and my wife's family back in the Midwest.

I also tidied up and reorganized my workbench. It will be a mess in a week, but looks pretty nice for now.

Gallery photos of the Messer. are here

With a fresh calendar come fresh projects. I had alllll day to model and took total advantage of it.

My first two for 2017 are Takom's M3 Lee in 1/35 and Eduard's Fokker F.I in 1/48.

Lee work was limited to the bogies. Mind you, each of them was a 14 part assembly.

Image

The fokker was a gift from my mother in law. It's a great little kit.

Here is the cockpit in progress

Image

And the nearly complete cockpit. I just need to add the instrument bar.

Back to work tomorrow, so no more power modeling, but it felt good to get so much done today (granted my eyes hurt, now)....

Now that's what I call a day well spent at the bench! From what I've seen, the bar is really set high now with modern armour kits, those bogie assemblies are really something to say nothing of the excellent underside detail - the parts count is huge in a lot of these kits and patience is definitely a virtue when dealing with them!

You've made a great job of that Fokker cockpit and what great detail is provided there by Eduard.

I certainly agree with Shaun about the Fokker cockpit, that looks really neat
Best wishes

Thanks.

A week on, and not much to show. I spent most of my free time this last week, writing.

I managed to add the middle wing to the Fokker. It fits with the top of the forward fuselage, and the fit isn't really neat, so cleanup will be needed along that sharp edge. Not really my favorite thing to do. The rib-tapes will need to be rescribed on the wing leading edges. Easy but tedious.

Image

I also started to add some rigging to the little airfix fokker.

I might be sending this kit to the shelf of doom, and buy a second one to start over. Between the decal problems, some paint rubbing off due to handling, and now paint beading up weirdly along the Uschi Van Der Rosten lines, its looking pretty rough. Next time I'll use EZ-Line, this Uschi stuff is spider web. Very in-scale, but very hard to work with, and almost invisible (which is why I tried to paint it). Sometimes perfectly to scale, and looking right, are not the same things.

Finally, one side of the tracks on the M3 is complete. They turned out a little funky, but the the fender sponson should hide most of the wide gappy bits. The length was about 0.25 of a link too long. Not sure where I went wrong.

That little Focker looks fantastic.
As for the M3, I can't see any problem with the tracks. they look spot on. This is definitely a kit on my wish list.

I agree, nothing wrong with the Fokker and the M3 is shaping up nicely

I also like the Fokker, Ralph and I have to admit that I can't see anything wrong with the M3 tracks - they look excellent from here. I'm not a regular builder of early aircraft and I'm still old school using stretched sprue for rigging. I agree that getting the balance right between scale thickness and practical thickness can be a problem.

The last week or so, in digest form.

Been working largely on the fokker F.I, which I decided to build as Werner Voss' aircraft

Image

Got some gaspatch turnbuckles to use on this one. Neat little things!

All blue base

And the streaky fokker finish, or my take on it.
