Looking better now, still need to fix the bottom of the wing, once the topside cures.

Is it just me or is the windscreen a bit flat?

The windscreen looks fine to me, as does the metallic finish 8-)

Very nice metallic finish; whose paint is it?
Best wishes

A bit more of the corsair. Here you can see the completed tail unit. The fabric tail had to be filled as the -5 had a metal tail. Also notice the flaps. HB designed them to be raised, but by simply cutting the little actuating tabs, they can be modeled lowered. The folder wing mechanism has also been installed. This is nicely detailed and some dry brushing will really make it stand out.

Oh man, that Corsair is really looking good as indeed is the P-51 - lovely NMF! Sadly I'm not knowledgeable enough on the type to know whether the windscreen is a little out.

The Corsair, and the Mustang, are looking great.

Thanks, guys.

While things were drying on the corsair and mustang, I pulled a kit off the shelf of doom.

Thus is Airfix's 1/48 Defiant, which I began in June. I felt like painting, so I whipped up my RAF mix from Vallejo paints and went at it. The decals are surprisingly poor for a recent Airfix kit. But they'll do.

Nice paintwork and the decals look good from the picture. What's so bad about them?

A few of them (like the V) had portions which did not want to come off the backing paper, and so they tore during application. All of it got fixed, so no problem in the long run, but I was surprised. I expect this from the brown background paper era decals, but not these.

Ralph, nice work on the Mustang. I liked this kit a lot and I see it is going to be very nice model when you build it. Defiant will always be ... defiant, in any guise :). There will be always parts of the build that seem to be stubborn :). I have a MPM offering waiting to be built and now am musing if I get it done before retirement :). Watching closely. We seem to be slightly off phase with respect to modelling, what You described I know perfectly well :).

The Defiant looks great Ralph despite the best attempts of the decals to frustrate your work and I agree, one expects decals to behave themselves these days!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the kind comments.

If the stars line up properly, later this evening, I should have the mustang fully painted. I did the yellow wing tips last night, and masked off the black antiglare and fuselage spine. Hence, tonight its just a matter of shooting on some black paint, and also painting the darker metallic onto the panel around the exhausts.

Photos soon.
