It's not everyone who gets a new chopper for Christmas
Best wishes

Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting
There was some interesting Airfix models available in my local TK Maxx this morning. Nothing of interest to me unfortunately: Rommels Half track, some Gulf War vehicles, RAF Ground crew and 'B Type' bus.

Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting
It feels a little bit like cheating but, as soon as the Scammell is completed, I will be doing a demo build on the Airfix 1916/1917 Great War tank showing the corrections necessary to make it right, certainly as a Mk1 but also as a MkII. The demo is on another, closely allied, forum but I will post some of the main parts of the conversion here - afterall it is still my kitchen crafting!

Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting
Happy New Year Tony. I will follow your Mark I/II build with interest. Is my recollection correct in that Airfix based their kit on a museum piece that was itself an amalgam of parts from different vehicles? I know the kit has well documented faults in so far as its accuracy is concerned but I can't remember exactly what those faults are now.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting
Shaun,
Without searching my references (which I cannot as I am not at home until tomorrow) the tale of the Airfix Great War tank goes something like this:
When Airfix decided to craft the Mk1, the reference was available at Bovington - trouble was that, at the time, Bovington did not have a true Mk1 but had cobbled together a MkII Supply tank with the steering tail and mechanism of a Mk1.
Whilst that can, perhaps, be forgiven, I am at a loss as to why the 'tiller wheels steering' is so wrong!
Going through the various options available to the modeller will be part of the build.
What is now so incredibly difficult is that the Bovington Mk1 is now part of a diorama, making photography a challenge and measurment impossible (at least on a casual basis). The replica 'grenade canopy' is a travesty - the real deal could support crew members fitting the tarpaulin.

Interesting stuff Tony and I look forward to seeing your build as it is worth knowing how to put this classic kit right.

Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting
Shaun (and anyone else who is interested), the build will also include how to create a 'combat' MkII (Male and Female) and a Supply MkII. Whilst it is also, just about, possible to craft a MkIII Male (the female had machine gun sponsons that were more like those of the MkIV), as these were only ever UK based training tanks I will not go down that road.
