Last evening in Florida - I am Disney’d out! Looking forward togetting back, surviving the celebrations of the Winter Solstace and then getting my feet under the modelling bench. I’ve to start on a tank for a GB, not just a tank but a tank in 1/35th! It will be a Sherman III of Royal Wilts Fusiliers called ‘HIGHWORTH’. (Or it will be if I can aquire enough ‘H’s’!!!).

And Merry Christmas to you! :-D

We had the same feeling after a week in Northern Cyprus and coming back to the UK on Saturday
Best wishes

I had cause to pop home for a couple of hours the other day. I took the opportunity to make and fit the replacement pitot tube - I used my usual hypodemic needle + accupuncture needle combination. In addition I drilled out reflector recesses in the landing light spaces, applied some chrome and then fitted the lenses - they are a press fit. Photos to follow in a couple of days.

That Texan is an excellent piece of work, Tony and looks great in those Cuban markings. I look forward to seeing your Sherman - any special or out of the ordinary markings planned for that?

Shaun,
It will be a Sherman III of the Royal Wiltshire Fusiliers named ‘HIGHWORTH’. Provided I can aquire some additional ‘H’s’!

I hope you are able to, Tony. There's just something about a British Sherman that I like, I can't quite put my finger on it, but there is!

My next project is a change of direction, but one of my 'interests' - armour of the Desert War (British that is). On another site there is a GB of Sherman's and all their derivatives and as I have a MkIII to build, I decided to join. Fool that I am I've only 4 months to complete it!

Any way, here is the kit:

Image Image

The kit represents a Sherman III of the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry and, in 1943 they gave their tanks names, one of which was 'HIGHWORTH':

OK, not quite 'armour of the desert war', but RWY did use the Sherman, along with the Grant and Crusader (my favourite).
The down side to choosing 'HIGHWORTH' is the number of 'H's'!! My decal sheet has 2 separate and 2 matching from 'The Old Bell' but the 'H' from 'The George' is different :-(. The decal sheet from the kit is a different colour so that cannot come to the rescue.

Oh what fun!! I've completed the construction of the road wheels and started building the lower 'box'. This model has the 3-piece transmission cover and the lower and upper body are designed accordingly. Now, whilst many of RWY Sherman IIIs did have that type of transmission cover 'HIGHWORTH' was not one of them! I must now do some fettling in order to get the cast transmission cover to fit. As far as I can see a straight cut across the front of the lower part should do the trick.

The yellow finish on that Texan is superb. Nice choice with the Sherman. Looking forward to seeing it progress.
