The removal of the masking has revealed a good finish, nice clean edges and almost no 'ridge'. Whilst it is time to lay down the faded green, I've no spare storage tins so the paint mix will have to wait until my order arrives.

As you can see, I didn't quite match the pencil line reference. I think, for the main aircraft paint finish, I will simply use blue tack without the pencil lines.

Rather than do nothing (something I am particularly skilled at!!) I decided to practice sticking my thumb and forefinger together with superglue. It makes 'hunt the glue remover' so much more fun. In fact, I was trying to put together a PE fret of the access ladders for the Javelin. Some 14 components, some of which are miniscule - but other components fit through them!! I used a super fine nozzle, but I am not sure that didn't add to my continuous attempts (and successes) in sticking the ladder to me, the work bench, the tweezers etc etc. I did get there in the end:

The colour demarcations look good to me Tony, sharp yet slightly feathered as I think an RAF scheme should look and well done with that PE boarding ladder, well worth the inevitable CA/fingers interaction!

The access ladders are painted and will receive some weathering in due course:

very nice PE work.....

When I'm doing a run of PE work, I make a little tin foil pot, formed around the blunt end of a knife handle (approx. 5mm diameter x 5mm deep) and decant two or three drops of CA glue into that. I then use a sharpened cocktail stick to apply the glue as required. The stick can be sharpened after each session to remove the inevitable build up of cured CA.

This of course does not stop said CA from sticking everything in sight to me, or the model; except of course for the part that it is supposed to be sticking!
Best wishes

That looks great with some paint on Tony and it will really enhance the finished model I'm sure. I'm also an advocate of the use of wooden cocktail sticks for applying glues such as CA or my preferred two-part epoxy but I differ from Iggie in that I use lids saved from jam jars, sauces and the like as a reservoir/mixing palette for the glue.

Iggie, I knew that! I've done that! Clearly, I have also forgotten about it, I even have applicators made from the eye end of needles! What a dummy I am.

Strewth, if I had remembered that I would have saved 90% of the glue I used.

An entire packet of Blu-tac was used to mask the Javelin and it took 2 evenings to complete (one up to the hairy stick wielders!). The end result looked like so:

Image

This morning I decided to use the Neo, trigger action, airbrush rather than my Passche. I 'yellowed' the suggested dark green ( the end result is probably close to a Humbrol Olive green, but then maybe not?) and applied many very thin coats. It didn't take very long as the thinned coats dried surprisingly quickly. The tail-plane took a few extra coats to cover the pre-shading as I was not happy with the effect.

Image

It is difficult to discern the green in this light, should look better once the model is uncovered.

I have serious concerns about the primer on the under surface. I had to reposition some Tamiya masking tape and the primer came away with it! My plan is to run a scalpel blade along the cammo demarcation line on the lover surface of the main-plane and tail-plane so that any delamination doesn't affect the cammo. I've no idea why the primer has chosen to behave in this manner, I've never experienced it before. Perhaps it is the shiny silvery plastic of the kit?
