The airbrakes operated above and below the wing as one; they ran off the same gearing and IIRC could not be engaged separately or variably (i.e. they were deployed or not)
Best wishes

You are making good progress here Ratch and all this effort will be worth it I'm sure! Iggie is correct regarding the air brakes as far as I am aware. Certainly I have never seen a Vulcan, either in photos or in the flesh, with just topside or underside brakes deployed.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Nice project Ratch. Those clamps you used on the vulcan look handy. I think I'll have to look out for some of them.

Somewhere I have a copy of the Vulcan workshop manual (as in the Avro version, not the Haynes one  ) on a CD-rom; I'll see if I can dig it out and get a view of the air-brake mechanism.....another definitive answer would be to PM Tee-Ell of this parish; he flew them often enough to know!
Best wishes

Cheers, I also have three sets of drawings that were in the boxes ;-)

Looking great with both builds; I'm tempted to dig one out of the stash......

Great progress Ratch. PE can be a right PITA to use but can add a significant amount of detail that would be difficult to scratchbuild. In this case I think the etch is adding worthwhile detail, rather than impossibly tiny bits to the cockpit that can barely be seen without a magnifier.

Vulcans are coming along very nicely Ratch. Man, all that photo etch looks daunting! Just looking at the boarding ladder makes me shudder. Also adding resin! So much surgery. If you don't mind me asking, how are you going to attach the windscreen frame to the canopy?

Thanks for your interest and comments lads

ATM my plan is to airbrush the rear part of the canopy (along with the airframe) and the PE separately. This will leave the whole of the screen area clear. I have test fitted the PE screen and it looks good, so it should just be a case of fixing it with CA - famous last words :ha:

Sounds like a plan Ratch, what could possibly go wrong? :ha:
