Ratch's workbench 2017

Post by Ratch »

Firstly a continuation from last year, repainting Revell's 02581 British Rifles and two new sets of Italeri 6083 British 95th Regiment “Green Jackets” Napoleonic Wars that I started at the beginning of July last year :ha:

They look good Ratch. I reckon I'll be asking you for some advice when I come to doing some work on my Waterloo Gift Set :)
And Happy New Year.

Here comes another lot
Having just pulled these three from the stash
Image

I needed some figures to go with the Sahariana and I'd previously bought these Wee Friends figures
Image
The tan figure came with the Carro Armato M 13/40

The five extra heads that you get with the Wee Friends gave me the opportunity to swap heads in the Airfix 01757 Italian Infantry (for a bit of variety) :ha:

Some Italian stuff on the go then Ratch. I've never built any of their small scale vehicles but am a long standing fan of Italeri's 1/35th scale ones.

That's some going on the figure painting front Ratch. You're accumulating quite an impressive army there 8-)

Thanks guys, on with the Carro Armato M 13/40

I don't know how old this tooling is, but it doesn't feel very new. I think a modern tooling would have been somewhat different; not that it's bad, the detail is quite crisp :)

The Camionetta AS 42 Sahariana does feel more modern (though I expect someone will identify them as the same age  ) and again, the detail looks good to me 8-)
Image
Image
I have a crew from Wee Friends that will feature with this, and there's the driver

I've just started the Autoblinda AB 41 and my initial impression is that this and the Sahariana are closely related with identical chassis :ha:
Image

Some of the Vallejo paint is rubbing off the figures as I handle them to add further colours :-| I intend to go through the pallet before retouching wherever necessary

The bulk of the Carro is complete...

paint next...

The Autoblinda moves forward...

After several rounds of painting and re-touching the Italian Infantry are almost done...

Then I remembered I'd intended to give them a wash

This is interesting Ratch, there isn't a great deal of Italian stuff built on here really (I'm as guilty as the next man and have only one Italian subject, a Hasegawa Macchi Folgore, in my entire stash) and it is good to see. That Carro is a very charismatic little tank!

Thanks for your interest Shaun. My grandfather fought the Italians through North Africa, Tunisia and into Italy. Consequently he did not think kindly of them :-| I wonder what he'd have thought of these
Image
I gave them a wash with thinned Humbrol Enamel Wash AV201 Black, so I'm now calling them complete. More pictures in the Gallery ;-)

He probably wouldn't have been as impressed as I am with them Ratch, but then again, I haven't had to fight through a major world conflict!

Today I experimented with my range of Vallejo Model Air paints to find a reasonable match for the Italian Desert Sand swatch in Armour Camouflage & Markings North Africa 1940 – 1943 ISBN 0 83568 101 5 by George R. Bradford. The assembled Carro Armato M 13/40 was air-brushed with Vallejo Acrylic 74604 German Dark Yellow RAL7028 Polyurethane Surface Primer before Vallejo Model Air 71081 Tank Dark Yellow was applied.

I have decided to use the figure provided in the Carro Armato M 13/40 to occupy the turret of the Autoblinda.
