If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

That's looking really good iggie - What have you used for the weathering?

+1 from me, the weathering has really added life. Spill the beansSir T wrote:That's looking really good iggie - What have you used for the weathering?

Cheers Chaps!ShaunW wrote:+1 from me, the weathering has really added life. Spill the beansSir T wrote:That's looking really good iggie - What have you used for the weathering?
No dark arts really; just a little Flory wash. The superstructure and funnels all got a dark grime wash overall, which was then wiped off with some damp kitchen towel. Then I added spots and lines of rust, and using a very slightly damp flat brush, a flicked the ends of the brush bristles downwards as though gravity was taking the rust streaks downwards....
It's a bit bright at present, but it'll tone down a bit when I give the whole thing a matt varnish spray at the end.
Best wishes

Well, it is very effective. At some point I intend to resurrect my Airfix Ark Royal build and that will need some weathering to stop it looking too toy-like.iggie wrote:Cheers Chaps!ShaunW wrote:+1 from me, the weathering has really added life. HOLY MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS RIGHTSIDE UP! BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL! And JUMPING JAUNDICED JEHOVAH!
Iggie, I bow to your masterful skills of ship-building! Can I send you my Revell Corvette for you to build? I can't do half as good a job as what you did there.
Those railings and rigging are out of this world! Amazing!

Re: iggie's modelling table
Cheers guys!
The rigging is mostly indicative to be honest, and caused me the biggest grief. It was virtually finished when while trimming one length off, I cut through the lower yard on the fore mast . Being elastic, this caused the rest of the mast to collapse under the unequal pressure and a re-build was needed.....
Other than that, the build although lengthy, was straightforward; the parts are all well moulded, with hardly any flash to be seen and no ejector marks except on undersides/insides so no worries there. I have enjoyed it immensely and feel more confident in starting one of my bigger 1/350 maritime subjects (of which there are one or two lurking in the stash ).
Paints are all acrylic, applied with le brush hirsuite. Weathering by Flory and a matt varnish lightly airbrushed overall to seal it in.
The rest of the shots now:
