It's a pain, but the PE seems to be working visually, and once it goes in the cabinet alongside some 1/350th builds then it won't be too obvious!

And Montrose proceeds further:
just a few of the many boats & landing craft!

And with all masts and boat hoists in place. I have added some lines to the hoists but they don't show from fore & aft views
Oh and I have added some metal mesh into the bottoms of the rafts to tone down the larger block of brown; I hope it'll look better after some weathering.

Wow, that is really looking the business Iggie. 1/375th is a "box" scale no doubt but IMHO is near enough to 1/350th and I would display it with ships in that scale with no worries.

Assembly is now pretty much done on the Montrose, she's had a coat of varnish and I've started some weathering. It looks a tad raw so far but I'll blend it with some darker washes to tone it down

Cheers Guys, thanks for looking in

I have made more progress with Montrose, but will probably save any more piccies for the final reveal! 8-)

Look no further!

And...the USS Montrose is off the stocks

I added some more weathering, using various shades of Flory washes dotted onto the hull and dragged down with a fan brush to simulate streaking, along with various splodges onto the decks etc.
Then I sprayed Xtracrylic matt varnish overall, and then did the decals and black hull bottom, plus some sewing-in elastic painted with Anthracite grey for rigging (highly simplified and non-prototypical :) )

Very nice work. Great weathering. Two thumbs up.

That looks really great Iggie! I have a query though, I can't see any means of propulsion :???:

Cheers guys! I must admit I've enjoyed this build tremendously, and it may result in another shop subject being pulled from the stash very soon. I need to finish the B-17 first though and make my mind up how to deal with the paint rings!

Shaun, the kit appears to be a semi-waterline hull, so no propeller is provided

Moving right along, the B-17 is back on the table. I had a long think about painting her in overall olive drab, but decided in the end to go for picking out a number of panels in different tones of aluminium (or should that be aluminum   ) in an effort to both cover some of the worst of the paint circles, or at least take my eye off them!
I gave her a coat of matt varnish before masking the panes, as I have learnt before that the AK metallics tend to lose their top surface if not sealed first. Then it was a tedious evening of mask some panels, apply a coat of one or other Tamiya metallic, then remove the masking and repeat elsewhere with another shade.... :???:
I'll leave it to you to decide on the outcome, but I'm pleased I did it :-D

Next up is masking off the nacelles ready for olive drab anti-glare panels, and also around the nose glazing for a green I.D band
