Re: iggie's modelling table
Me too! I hadn't even heard about brown seats in Spitfires until you mentioned themSoftscience wrote:No, I don't know. Its why I asked.
I've had a look on T'interweb, and it seems about half the models built of Mk.II Spits have them, the rest have green or green and black..... so I'm modelling one that had a replacement seat or used old stock left over from making Mk.Is
Especially as I've just glued the fuselage together!
Thanks for the heads up though; I'll know for next time
Best wishes
Jim

Re: iggie's modelling table
The seats were made of synthetic resin bonded paper which unpainted has the red / brown colour similar to bakerlite.

Get you Mr Spitfire That's a great snippet of info, Shane!shangos70 wrote:The seats were made of synthetic resin bonded paper which unpainted has the red / brown colour similar to bakerlite.
Excellent work so far, Iggie, that is a seriously good looking cockpit. Just a small point. Is the control column the right way round? I ask because I think the detail that I can make out facing the IP and that should consist of a channel with some pipework showing in this scale should face the pilot's seat, rather than the blank face that is. If I'm wrong then I tender my apologies now
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: iggie's modelling table
I thought that too; again the Revell instructions suggest flat side toward the pilot, and the detail toward the IP but the internet suggests a majority with the detail toward the pilotShaunW wrote:Get you Mr Spitfire That's a great snippet of info, Shane!shangos70 wrote:The seats were made of synthetic resin bonded paper which unpainted has the red / brown colour similar to bakerlite.

I will pull it out later (inset own joke here ) and turn it around.
Sheeesh, I knew this kit had some issues but I haven't even started the exterior bits and pieces yet!
Seriously though, no worries if anyone spots a clanger, it just goes to show that instructions can be fallible!
As of last night:

Re: iggie's modelling table
That Spitfire is shaping up really nicely - and no I have not spotted any of the errors.
One of the disadvantages of scratch building is that the instructions are ALWAYS fallible.....which is why they are constantly being rewritten!!

Lovely cockpit Jim
All models are equal. Some models are more equal than others.

Aplogies for having to admit and ask .. I think I might have missed something a page or so back ... but is this all the kit supplied cockpit, or have you added a bit of AM in there?

The cockpit is entirely OOB, the only additions are paint and varnish

Re: iggie's modelling table
The re-positioned control column looks right to me now, Iggie. That is a great looking cockpit OOB from the Blue Team and very nicely assembled and painted by your good self of course

Re: iggie's modelling table
Further progress on the Spitfire:
U/C doors, outer face. The riveting detail is really nicely done by Revell
Inner face of U/C doors, with legs attached; Revell aluminium, Steel for the oleo and a good dollop of Tamiya Smoke on top
Underside painted using AK RAF Sky
Two of my favourite brushes; they are in fact make-up brushes 'borrowed' from Mrs iggie
Topside view after two coats of AK Dark Earth. I'm going to do the Dark Green next and then (if needed) I'll do another brown between the green bits
