Further progress; all assembly done and painted, I added some rudimentary elevator controls and rigging plus the undercarriage so she is up on her wheels.

Whilst ship rigging doesn't phase me at all , the prospect of biplanes is a worrying thought. Looks good what you done with it

Wow, Ig. I'm really impressed with how you pulled that off. If I had tried to paint after rigging, the lines would be coated in thick drippy paint globs. And thats just those that I didn't snap off in the process!

Thank you Folks! I'm hoping to get this finished later this evening as with the festive season rapidly approaching, my bench will be retired to the garage for the duration

The rigging being elastic is fairly forgiving if hit with the paint brush during painting, and so far it has worked out ok; that said, I'll probably ping it later!

And she's done; I give you the venerable Airfix 'arry Tate, dating back to 1957 according to Scalemates, but with a 1958 date stamp inside the fuselage ( ). Maybe that was as long as they expected it to last?











This may well be my last completion before Christmas, as my bench now has to go into retirement to make way for the Christmas tree....but it'll be back before New Year so a last 2017 build may yet happen!

I've seen this in the aviation section - you've made a first class job of that old banger, Iggie, the kit is about ready for its bus pass I think and certainly should be pensioned off if it hasn't been already!

I know this is a much maligned kit, but for something that is but a few years younger than my parents, it looks fresh and current!

Goes to show how even a poor kit can be turned into something really nice in the hands of a skilled modeler. Even if said skilled modeler has a "particular" construction/paint/rigging sequence

It was indeed first issued in 1957

Airfix didn't add the date-stamp until later on lots of the early kits
