What a lovely Spitfire! I have a friend who has persuaded me to use acrylics - they give a smooth finish and can be easily diluted and applied with a brush to give a finish as good as any airbrush over large surfaces. Your finish could easily be mistaken for airbrush.

I'll take some better pics tomorrow, but in the meantime I've started the kit that I was going to blitz next Saturday. My chances of getting any significant length of time to do a blitz are not looking rosy; father-in-law is not very good and may not be with us for much longer. If I do get the chance for a blitz then I'm pretty sure there might be something else suitable in the stash!
On the other hand I might just have wasted a perfect blitz choice as this is an hours work......

Last time I looked on on you, there was a horse and cart in progress, now you've more than galloped along and built a spitfire. Very nice indeed.

Managed another hour later this evening; the V1 is pretty well done and the ramp has had a first coat of yellow

The V1 kit looks a little cracker, I’m surprised that some one hasn’t release one like this years ago, I know Frog gave you one with one of their Spitfire kits and Tamiya do one, but why did nobody think of including a ramp before?

I'm very impressed with the launching ramp, and I think I'll make a base for it to sit on that can have suitable figures and a vehicle or two added.

Thanks Shaun. As ever at Fred's age (he is 91), things are beginning to shut down or plain give up. We also suspect that the cancer he had some years ago has spread without noticeable outward signs. The NHS has as always in my experience, been brilliant and every agency is working towards giving him the best care possible in the utmost dignity. He is determined not to go back to hospital however so a lot of his care is falling on us at the moment.
For what it's worth, Fred is ex RAF (a sooty) and spent several years stationed in India working mainly on servicing and upgrading radial engines including the Centaurus. It is suspected that the skin cancer that he had (and that may now have reappeared elsewhere) was a result of long hours in the sun working on aircraft. He's the kindest man I know.

I hope your father in laws suffering is minimal.
