Re: Dollar's Vault
Thanks fellas!
I sort of neglected the model all week. I had some other irons in the fire so to speak.
I'm back at it now, still putting on the old Monogram stencil decals. There are so many of them and they are so small, I can only go for an hour or so before I need to take a break. Thus the slow progress. Not much really to see but here's a picture of where I'm at.
Thanks for looking,
Greg

Re: Dollar's Vault
Looks like those Monogram stencils are going on well enough Greg. Most of my aircraft builds these days are post war jets and with that subject choice often comes numerous tiny stencil decals. I have to admit to missing a lot of them off on most of my builds as they drive me mad!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Dollar's Vault
I'm with Shaun; if the stencils are large enough to be noticed and preferably colourful then they go on.
If not........!

Good work on the stencils Greg, they will be worth it

Re: Dollar's Vault
Well.... they are colorful. And really, what's a Phantom that's not covered in stencils? For what it's worth I finished all the decals today.iggie wrote:I'm with Shaun; if the stencils are large enough to be noticed and preferably colourful then they go on.

I've got a coat of Kleer over top of everything to seal it all in.
I saw the surgeon today for the last time. He's cleared me to return to work on Monday. So me and my stumpy finger will be back at the salt mine, and my not so enjoyable vacation comes to an end.
I'd like to say thanks to everybody here for all the kindness and encouragement these past weeks. The time at the bench, and on here with you fellas made it bearable and helped keep my head in the right space. You are greatest!
So I'll keep at the Phantom and maybe even get it finished this weekend.
Thanks for being there.....

Yep, that's a pretty colo(u)rful set of stencils
I'm glad to hear you've got the all-clear from the quack; hope it all goes well back at work

Re: Dollar's Vault
Thanks Iggie.
Here's a whole bunch of pictures of todays progress. I'd call it essentially done. I still have a few touch-ups to fix. and another coat of flat to fix the weathering. I didn't go too overboard with the weathering. I really just wanted a used look. about it.
I should finish tomorrow and get the masking off the canopies. Then I'll put up the glamour shots, the off to the display case.
Thanks for looking.

Re: Dollar's Vault
Thank you Nigel! They certainly took me a while, but I think they were worth it. A Phantom just doesn't look right without them.
I can happily say that this one is a done deal. I'm not all that happy with the way it turned out. I did learn a few things though. So I guess it's not a total loss. At one point I was ready to give it a toss into the trashcan. I keep forgetting this is a relaxing hobby. HA! Tell me that again, please.
All in all it's still isn't all that bad, if one doesn't look too closely.
I do like how my compressor face images turned out.
They look better in real life, as you can't see them all that well and certainly not the messy way myself and Monogram handled the intake. So it's on the shelf and the bench is cleaned. My missus knows when I've finished one because she finds the instruction sheet and the box in the trash can.....

Re: Dollar's Vault
Excellent build all round Greg, and the compressor faces look a treat; I may have to borrow that idea when (if) I get to build a jet again!
Best wishes
