A great start back Greg. Looking fprward to seeing this one built. Always liked the Wildcat. A pugnacious little beast.

All the best.

Greg.

Good to see you back!
You can't beat an Academy 1/72 aircraft for a nice straight forward build; an ideal choice to get back into the groove

Yes it good to see you back in action, Dollar. That Academy Wildcat should be a nice build.

Thanks fellas, thats very kind. It's good to be back.

Wings on and seams filled and sanded. This is the first kit since I was a a kid and thats sometime ago, that has a stand. Now do I finish it wheels up or wheels down?

Looking good. These days I always build gear down, however, there's something to be said for building gear up on a stand as the aircraft's lines are shown to their best without the dangly bits spoiling it all!

Thanks Splash and Shaun. I test fitted the gear up pieces and for whatever reason... it just didn’t look right. So in go the gear legs in the down position. There’s something about those spidery look pegs on this bird I find appealing!

I decided to go ahead an add the pilot figure to the very spartan cockpit. A little paint and in he went.

I got around to spraying the two color camo today as well. Took a vacation day so to speak and got a chance to practice some more with acrylic paint. Not too bad but I'm sure to get better with the stuff.

The top-side colour looks spot on for faded blue!

for what it's worth ....today is my 63rd birthday and as such i was told by the Mrs. that today was my day to spend as i wish! So i made the best of sitting on my butt watching some of the Olympics and at the bench. I got two gloss coats on the Wildcat and Two decals on the wings. Is it me or are Academy decals super difficult to get to settle? Ive spent the better part of my day applying Solv a Set, and the thing just lays there laughing at me. It's acting like a vinyl sticker!!

It's definitely not you. Those in-house Academy decals are the absolute worst. Some of their newer kits have Cartograf decals, which make a world of difference. This one is looking great!

Hope you have a Happy Birthday! Looks like it was productive modelingwise.

Thanks!
I decided to just mush on and put the rest of them on, there's a total of 8. If i turns turtle on me after i flat coat it, I'll let it go to my grandson. He has a growing collection of my failures.

Great looking stubby little aircraft. You are doing some fine work on it. I can't see anything wrong with the decals from here!
