Re: Spaceowl's Roost
That is looking like a Spad mate. Those resin pylons really stand out too.
You have got me wanting to build one now.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Great work so far. I have the old Airfix Skyraider in the stash, which will be built at some point in the hopefully not to distant future - naturally, the Airfix effort is showing its age but I am a glutton for classic kit punishment!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Must be a lot of us Airfix junkies on this forum. I, too, restored and spruced up an old Airfix Skyraider a couple of months ago. Very satisfying!ShaunW wrote:I have the old Airfix Skyraider in the stash, which will be built at some point in the hopefully not to distant future - naturally, the Airfix effort is showing its age but I am a glutton for classic kit punishment!

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Really nice work. Skyraider is very nice. I would not be too worried about the pre-shading. I found that it is a very nice and forgiving technique. I did my first try at it just a little while ago and I was surprised at the outcome. I found that sinking feeling in my stomach when I put the black paint on but after the main colour goes on it comes back very nicely. Looking forward to seeing your work.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
I've been off for the week, so not much was getting done, although things have picked up in the last couple of days:
This has been one of those builds that never seems to get any closer to completion, although it has been a pleasant change to slow things right down. This is the Spad with full camouflage applied, now begins the tedious business of running thinned black watercolour into the panel lines and touching up afterwards (already done on the upper wings) which is going to eat up at least tonight's session.
Thinking about what to do next. The O-2 decals have arrived from the States so I must get the missing ones onto my O-2 before the GB ends, and after that I'm not sure what I'm going for - except that it's going to be Tamiya, Hasegawa or something similarly 'shake the box'. I deserve a day off

Looking good

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
That's a cracking paint job Rob. She is starting to look like the real deal.
I've got some Humbrol black weathering wash going spare if you want it.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Work continues - the Skyraider is gloss-varnished and ready for decalling.
Now the difficult bit, scavenging through the decal spares box looking for the bits I need.

That Skyraider SEA scheme came out very nicely.

Really nice job on the camo. I will be fun to see the decals go on. Great work.
