Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Another day, another project...this time the RoG P-47D from 2002. I made this kit as the first build of my Turkish Air Force collection way back in 2009, and remember it very fondly.
HOWEVER:
This one is shot in horrible hard brittle aluminium plastic which doesn't like acrylic paint and has heavy flash on all sprues. I don't remember it being like this!
Anyway, whining aside, I've made fairly steady progress so far - all the major sub-assemblies are together and the next 24 hours should see it ready for painting. It's going to be a Normandie-Niemen machine, so NMF overall with standard French markings.
More to follow.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Underneath all that flash is a very nicely detailed kit. I built is straight out of the box, and had the same issues you're experiencing, but it looks like you're doing a great job on it.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Thanks very much. the sad part of it is it's a superb kit except for the material it's shot in.mjatx wrote:Underneath all that flash is a very nicely detailed kit. I built is straight out of the box, and had the same issues you're experiencing, but it looks like you're doing a great job on it.
On to other things - I can't help noticing that I'm doing a poor job of updating at the Roost, so there will be daily updates starting now (or at least regular updates after I've stuck things together).
A new project; the Azur Vautour IIN, a big bird from the 1950s best imagined as a night fighter Canberra . Typically for a Czech kit, there's lots of different things in the box:
Brass, resin, transparent film and LOTS of plastic. I've only made a very small start - the ejector seats are together and ready for the etched brass to go on. Keep watching; this may take a while.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Update two:
The rear cockpit is almost complete, and went together much better than I thought it would. The ejector seats are ready for painting and it was quite nerve-wracking getting them there, however the carpet monster went unfed and I got all the thin PE parts on. The inner wing panels, as you see, needed a little filling as fit was quite sloppy. Hope this isn't a warning of things to come.

The Vautour is a great looking aircraft. What colour scheme are you planning, NMF?

Doris Day isn't from the 1950s, she's from Swindon.Old_Tonto wrote:I thought you were going to say Diana Dors then!Spaceowl wrote: A new project, a big bird from the 1950s

And yes, as far as French Vautours go, there's a choice of one finish, natural metal. There's lots of coloured stripes and such on it though.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
The Vautour is an interesting project Spaceowl. IIRC the undercart is in a Harrier stylee but with the outriggers in the engine pods rather than the wing tips - hopefully you won't have too many problems when it comes to making sure all of the wheels make contact with the ground as I know Harriers can sometimes be a bit of a bind that way.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Surely one and the same?Spaceowl wrote:Doris Day isn't from the 1950s, she's from Swindon.
Another day, another lesson from this forum; I had never even heard of the Vautour, let alone seen one! Looks a nice aircraft, although not so much with the very sharp nose. Will yours have the snub nose? If so, I shall like it a lot!
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

All models are equal. Some models are more equal than others.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Now the Blitzbau madness is over, I thought I'd post an update on the Vautour. It's been too long.
The near-completed cockpit (still needs a control panel).
The fuselage, with internals.
Slow as I've been, this is a fun kit to build - challenging but not impossibly difficult. The interior even passes the dry fit test.

Re: Spaceowl's Roost
Nice work on the office. needs to be mind because of that massive canopy.
I'll be interested to see what the fit is like when you join the fuselage halves together.
