Nicely done camo, Spaceowl. Should look very sharp with the UN decals on Image

Now that is praise from Caesar. Thank you, Mike, high praise indeed.

BTW, is the Mossie in your avatar picture from Tintin?

J-29 is finished and on Aviation Modelling. I don't really care for these mainstream subjects so I'm going for something a bit more obscure for my next build :) . Watch this space...

Nice SAAB. Was thinking of doing my Airfix one up in that kit. Looks very dangerous.

On to the next Congo aircraft, this time an Academy F-86 in Iranian Air Force colours. Four of these aircraft replaced the Ethiopian contingent of 4 F-86s after one of them crashed in murky circumstances and the EAF went home.

Its this Academy kit - full review here:

No big surprises and to me it's a nice modern kit which looks like a Sabre. I don't ask for much more than that.
Work so far:

Just banging the sub assemblies together. Soon it will start to look like an aircraft (I hope).
More following soon.

Nice choice of Subject, it should look good next to the J-29.

Coming together:

No major fit issues so far (much as you would expect with modern Academy kits) but dry fitting the fuselage halves has shown a bit of a gap in front of the gunsight. No big deal, I'm sure.

Nice scheme, Rob. Oddly enough, I only have the old Matchbox kit of this aircraft, though I'm sure I have some obscure decals somewhere.
So many models, so little time.

Definitely shaping up nicely. The Sabre is a favorite; a very nice looking aircraft for sure.

All masked up:
Image

Undercoated in grey, then in silver leaf and finally panels masked off and oversprayed in gloss aluminium (both Tamiya). Doesn't look like much at the moment; I'm waiting to see what it looks like de-masked.

Nice one, look forward to seeing it with the masking off. I tend to be a NMF avoider myself.......

I know what you mean. There didn't seem to be a great deal of contrast when de-masked, but there is some. There should be photos up tomorrow of the completed beast.

The F-86 is now finished and there are pictures up on Aviation Modelling. Next out of the traps: a Heller Fouga Magister of the Katangan Air Force (I thought I was getting too mainstream  )
