new build

Post by alecras234 »

Hi im building a 1 76 airfix starter kit Cromwell mk4 tank, i have done step one, but now on step 2 where i add another layer to the sides of the body which i have done but then it says to add pieces to the front and back. it says the parts are 35A and 9A, the parts that i cut from the sprue don't fit and don't look like what's in the instruction sheet. i can't see the right parts on the sprue. Should i worry about these pieces, do they need to go on?

It looks as if Part 35A goes along the side, and part 9A is the rear of the tank body. You do need both of these parts, and they should be numbered clearly on the sprue.

The part you have shown upper left looks like it is part 23A; it has two little blocks cast on the back of it, which seem to be shown on the instructions. The other part looks nothing like 9A. I have this kit in my stash somewhere, but it'll be tomorrow evening before I can dig it out. Hopefully someone else with a more accessible kit will be able to help out before then, if not I'lll see where the parts are on the sprues and photograph them for you
Best wishes

alecras, your part 23A is correct but your part 9A is in fact part 6A which fits on the engine deck in stage 9.
The real part 9A is close to the turret base part 13A

I found the right part for the rear, i had the sprue upside down so i took off part number 6 instead of 9. i've glued the parts but the rear part doesn't line up, shall use filler for this?? Also the top of the rear piece isnt level does this matter? Image

The rear part should indeed be level.

Carefully cut it away from the hull and re-glue it.

No, just carefully cut it away, let the knife do the work and don't try to cut though the joints in one go.
